Rafi Sahab’s legendary associations: 01

Rafi sahab’s association with Vasant Desai started in 1949 with ‘Nai Ta’aleem” and “Narsimha Avtar” and continued till the very last music score by Vasant Desai in Shaque (1976)(Ek dil hai ek jaan hai (Shaque)). Vasant Desai’s active career as a music director is just a bit longer, from 1942 to 1976.
I think this is the first time I am writing a post for a song composed by Vasant Desai. I heard of Vasant Desai in childhood, when my mother used to talk about how he had died in an accident caused by faulty lift, whenever a song from films like Goonj Uthhi Shehnai, Jhanak Jhanak Paayal baaje or Guddi, would play on radio.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2011-2021) – Song No. 10

This day ten years ago (viz 4 February 2011) saw six songs getting covered from six different movies. The sixth song of the day was the 3500th post in the blog. ‘Radio days’ are here again for me. My new workplace is around 55 kms from my residential place, so it takes me around one hour or little a more than that, to reach office.
That gives me a good one-hour time in the morning and in the evening to tune in to ‘Vividh Bharati’.
In the morning my day starts normally with ‘Bharat Ki Goonj’, and in the evening it is ‘Shaam Sindoori’, ‘Sangeet Sarita’ and some part of ‘Jailmala’ if the ‘traffic’ on the way is more.
