When Khyati Behn sent in the lyrics of this song, she said, and I quote , that she “. . . was KB Exp to see that this film hasn’t yet found its place on the blog. Koi baat nahi, ab kar dete hai. 🙂 “.  Well we all know, with Khyati Behn, the messaging has to be something out of the ordinary.

From the email that Khyati Behn sent me with the lyrics of this song, I reproduce the epithet she has used – “One more song to add to Lataji’s THE BEST MELODIES EVER COLLECTION.”  I heard this song, and I do agree with her.  A song par excellence, that has long been relegated to anonymity for various reasons and circumstances.

“Shaan”(1980) was produced by G P Sippy and directed by Ramesh Sippy. This was the same production house which had written history with their previous movie, viz. “Sholay”(1975). The makers of this movie wanted this movie to be as grand as “Sholay”(1975).

“Swayamwar”(1980) was produced by B Nagi Reddi and directed by P Sambasiva Rao for Vijaya Productions (P) Limited. In other words, this movie was produced by the makers of “Chandamama”, a popular Children’s magazine that used to be published in some 14 languages of India (and even some foreign languages). Readers who loved reading the stories of “Chandamama” also loved the movies produced by the Production house.

Though I am not very good in remembering dates (especially important dates, you know which ones 🙂 ), I often get saved by someone or the other. I would almost forget the birthday of my wife but for the fact that we have a daughter who can never forget birthdays and who never fails to remind me of such dates.

On October 10th 2014, the frozen in time diva Bhanurekha Ganeshan (the birth name of the person we know as just Rekha) turns 60. I had a tough time trying to select a song for the occasion. At first I thought I will do the usual of finding an Amitabh- Rekha song as their birthdates are 10th and 11th October. Then on going through “the list of songs movie wise” and comparing it with the list on MYSWAR.com I realized that the song sung by Rekha in her own voice is still to be posted.

Rafi Sb – In The Seventies – 20
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

(1980 – Duet)

A brief and approximate view of the numbers from Rafi Sb’s career. I am basing this view on the data available in the Rafi Song list, and from browsing of the Geet Kosh. In the 1940s, starting from 1945 and upto 1950, his film songs number less than 200, approximately in the range of 165 to 170. Then in the 1950s, this number rises dramatically. An approximation is 1370 film songs in that decade. In the 1960s, we see a further improvement in this number – the approximate number of songs as per records is 1500, plus or minus 10. As we come into the 70s, there is a drop in this number. The records show that there are approximately 1025 songs in the decade from 1971 to 1980. I would like to add that these numbers also include the known songs from unreleased films, i.e. songs that were recorded for films, but the films either did not get made or were not released.
