Hullo Atuldom

Just like my previous post, here is a look at the posts on the blog on This Date That Year (viz on 9 December 2013):-

Song Movie (Year) Remarks
Gori tere liye sabka jiya doley Shamsheer (1953) post by Arukumarji. Oonly one song till now from this movie
Ik baat suni hai chaachaa jee batlaane waali hai Naram Garam (1981) my post. three out of six songs have been posted so far

That means, on that day, there were only two posts, which were posted after 8 p.m. Must have been a really long and busy day for Atulji. Because, if I remember correctly, those days, Atulji used to make his first post almost at the break of dawn; he still does that.

2 December 2023 was the 9th Remembrance Day of Deven Verma (23/10/1937 – 02/12/2014) who had taken comical performances in Hindi films on a different level. Gulzar had said about Deven Verma that he was not a comedian but an actor. I think, he must have made this statement with his experience of working with him in ‘Angoor’ (1982). His performance was devoid of buffoonery but was loaded with gentle humour, wit, and pun. His wife, Roopa Ganguly had said that her husband was a witty person in his real life.

While discussing the films, ‘Gharaonda’ (1977) and ‘Dooriyaan’ (1979), the name of Bhimsain gets noticed. Both these films were produced and directed by him whose specialisation was in animation films. His foray into feature film was a journey into uncharted waters for him. In the event, both these films became cult-classics. Thereafter, he made only one Hindi film, ‘Tum Laut Aao’ (1983) and bid goodbye to Hindi films. He devoted rest of his life in improving the standard of animation films in India. I have come across about a dozen of videos on the development of animation films in India and all of these mention about the contributions Ram Mohan and Bhimsain in the field of animation films in India.

Remembering Bhimsain Khurana (24/11/1936 – 17/04/2018), a devoted animation filmmaker whose 87th birth anniversary falls today.

Entire month of october and first half of november saw India awash in cricket mania. ODI World cup cricket was being held in India from 5 october 2023 to 19 november 2023.

As games progressed, we found India keep winning one match after another. They won all their nine group matches and finished top of the table. In contrast, other teams had to scramble and fight hard to qualify for the semi finals. When the group matches were over, India were at the top with nine wins, South Africa and Australia, with seven wins each were second and third. New Zealand, with five wins took the fourth and final semi final position. Other six teams, including England the defending champions fell by the wayside.

Producer-director-writer, Basu Chatterjee is one of the earliest filmmakers who brought up middle-class related issues on the big screen with films like ‘Saara Aakaash’ (1969), ‘Piya Ka Ghar’ (1971), ‘Rajnigandha’ (1974), ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ (1975), ‘Chitchor’ (1976), ‘Baaton Baaton Mein’ (1979) and many more. He has also made film with other genres of which ‘Kamla Ki Maut’ (1989) was critically acclaimed. But the film failed at the box office. He went back to his favourite genre of middle class family drama with light comedy, and made for Doordarshan a telefilm, ‘Hamaari Shaadi’ (1990). About 3 months back, Doordarshan uploaded the film in digital format on one of the video sharing platforms, with improved audio-visual quality.

#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
———————————————————————
(Debutant Movie – Bedard-1982 – Lyricist – Naqsh Lyallpuri-1)
———————————————————

Today’s song is a gem of song which remained a lesser heard and lesser known song, which might be because it is from a movie few people are aware of. The title of the film is ‘Bedard’ which seems to be an obscure movie of its time. I like this song very much for its poetic value and the overall composition. it is sung by Bhupinder Singh and the song is composed by Kanti Kiran.

Hardly any information is available about the music composer Kanti Kiran, except that he had also composed music for the Hindi movie ‘Jhoom Uthhaa Aakaash-1973’. I had shared a few songs from this movie earlier here on the blog and liked them too.

Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami) is celebrated on the 10th day of Navratri festival. One of the common traditions during the celebration of Dussehra festival is the burning of the effigies of Raavan along with his son Indrajit and his brother Kumbhakaran, symbolising the victory of good over evil. However, there are few places in India where Raavan’s effigy is not burnt during Dussehra celebrations. On the contrary, Raavan is worshipped.

Hullo Atuldom

On 30th May 2021 we had a post to the song from the film “Ye Teraa Ghar Ye Meraa Ghar” (2001) – a film that highlighted the problems a house-owner faces when he wants his, long-time tenant, to vacate his house so that the owner can sell the house & solve his financial debts.
