Yesterday (26th June) there was a discussion on the ‘Atulites Whatsapp group’ regarding songs containing the word ‘June’ in them. I thought that some of us would definitely point out this song – how can seventies’ fans miss this. So, our beloved Raja ji pointed out this song and reminding it that it was quite a popular song in those days. I must be 2/3 years old then, so I can’t say much about this 🙂 but, after listening this song now, I can say that it’s tune is quite nice and enjoyable and one can easily be humming this song after listening to it once.
I had come across this song few months back during my routine browsing, and since the starting of this month – ‘June’, I wanted to share the song during this month. I was thinking of sharing this song, but as the month progressed it was very hectic on work front for me and it slipped out of mind. But nevertheless, since yesterday’s discussion I thought we still have few days in this month of June and can enjoy this song.

Today (21 may 2019) is the rememberance day of Subodh Mukherji (14 April 1921 – 21 May 2005). The name of Subodh Mukherji is synonymous with movies that many HFM lovers have either grown up with or have relived them as part of their discovery of Hindi movies. What movies he has produced and directed!

Missing Films of 1960s – 98

It is such a delight to ferret out unheard songs from obscure and unfamiliar films. So many times, I come across the film names and then move on because it is unfamiliar. So many times I pause at a film folder in my collection, thinking whether I have opened it before. But then usually, other pressing matters take precedence and I say ‘oh well’, and move on.

Goodness, what a lovely duet this one is. The film is ‘Sampooran Teerath Yatra’ from 1970. I have heard of this film earlier, but never did get an opportunity to listen to its songs. As I planned to bring this film on board in this series, I was checking out the songs of this film. And when I played this duet, I am verily bowled over by the sweetness of this composition.

Missing Films of 1960s – 95

We come to a very interesting episode of this series. The film I pick for today is ‘Koi Ghulam Nahin’ from 1970. The Geet Kosh listings say that the film has 6 songs, and all of them have been released on 78 rpm gramophone records. As I checked my own collection, I find that all the six songs are available. Just to check, I also went online and discovered that two songs are available on the YouTube. And very interestingly, one of them turns out to be a video. And a very interesting video at that. The song is sung by Rafi Sb, and is performed on screen by MG Ramachandran (MGR), the super star of South Indian cinema.
