Rekha, who made a debut in films as a teenage, first in telugu followed by Kannada & Hindi, has been seen in close to 180 films. She has also acted in a Bhojpuri film. She had given her voice to characters played by Smita Patil, that were at the dubbing stage & left incomplete due to Smita’s death. She has also tried her hand at singing, she didn’t sound bad.

The songs were composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal & written by Anand Bakshi. The playback singers used for the songs were Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Anand Kumar C, Vinod Sharma, Hemlata, Mukesh & Mohd Rafi.

Today’s song is from the film Chhupa Rustom-1973.
This was a Dev Anand film. Once upon a time, when I was very very young, I was very fond of his every film. He looked so cute, handsome and a real film Hero ! As the years rolled by, I saw less and less films. The last film that I enjoyed in which Dev was a hero was, perhaps, Guide -1965. Thereafter Dev Anand’s cute looks started fading, age was showing on his face and probably on his brain too, because he refused to accept that he was no more a cute looking actor. The result was saddening. Further, he was adamant in writing his own film stories, directing them and acting also as a Hero.

Earlier we had a few posts on the blog for the birth centenary celebrations. ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ (2007) was produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films and was directed by Pradeep Sarkar. The star cast included Rani Mukherjee, Jaya Bahaduri, Konkana Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher, Abhishek Bachchan, Kunal Kapoor, Tinnu Anand, Sushant Singh, Kamini Kaushal, Suchitra Pillai etc. Hema Malini made a special appearance in the film in the role of a courtesan. This was the second film of Pradeep Sarkar as a director after his critically acclaimed film, ‘Parineeta’ (2005). The film is available for viewing only on the OTT platform.
