A career that almost wasn’t at one time. His father, himself at the head of a famous film production company, did not want his own son to be associated with films and the film world. Maybe a very well intentioned direction to his offspring, knowing all the glittering and the sordid ins and outs of the industry. But then, destiny has its own will and its own ways to propel individuals in particular directions.

Today’s song is from film Naiya-1947. This social film was made by Mohan Pictures of Ramniklal Shah, which normally made C grade stunt films. The director was Aslam Noori and the music was by Anil Biswas. The cast of the film included Mazhar khan, Munawar Sultana, Ashraf khan, Anwar, Shehzadi, Suman, Balakram, Siraz etc etc. The film had 6 songs listed in HFGK, with record numbers. However it also indicates that there could be 3 more songs, about which no information is available. Lyricist’s name is not mentioned in HFGK,but I find that moviepedia.in mentions name of Aslam Noori – the director as its Lyricist also.

Hullo All

Todays’ post features a rather new song. It is only 19 years old. It is from “Fiza” (2000) which was directed by Khalid Mohammed who used to be known as a film critic before he got into film-making. He has made “Fiza”; “Zubeida”; “Tehzeeb” and “Silsilay”. He is also the son of yesteryear actress Zubeida about whom our in-house encyclopaedia has written in this article.

Has anyone seen today’s google doodle?!!!!

It is dedicated to our dear Mogambo a.k.a Durgaprasad Bharadwaj a.k.a Chaudhry Baldev Singh a.k.a Thakur Durjan Singh a.k.a Balwant Rai a.k.a Kishorilal a.k.a Amrish Puri.  He would have been 87 today.

Feels like they have appreciated some one close to our family. The doodle shows him in the look he sported for DDLJ – ‘Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ (1995) as Chaudhry Baldev Singh. That movie is remembered as much for the last scene where the Chaudhry tells his daughter

jaa beta jaa. Apni Raj ke paas jaa. Jaa Simran, jee le apni zindagi jaa beta jaa

The last scene can be seen on YT at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAaL5HZC5YI. The movie is remembered for this last scene, as much for all the romance and romantic songs that it had.

I have so many things to write about that sometimes they (those things crowding my thoughts) don’t let me sleep at night. Wish I had the habit of writing the diary. . . those “dear diary“, outpourings would have helped as a sounding board, more effectively than this blog.

Once upon a time I did start a daily diary, but that did not develop to the level of habit. Then many years ago a colleague advised in all seriousness that I should write down the daily thoughts, clearly impressed with the way I was able to warm to any topic and give a one minute lecture to an assorted audience or whoever was around me. I wasn’t really enamoured by that particular lady and I have never used her as a sounding board or even a ‘complaint register’. I tried to avoid talking about much of anything with her or say only as much as necessary, but she has a knack of introducing topics into conversation and getting people to open up.

Mitwa – 1

sun mere bandhu re…..
sun mere mitwaa….
sun mere saathhi re….

The Poet i.e. Majrooh further says:

hotaa tu peepal,
main hoti amar lataa teri
hotaa tu peepal,
main hoti amar lataa teri
tere galey maalaa ban ke,
padi muskaati re
sun mere saathi re
sun mere bandhu re,
sun mere mitwaa
sun mere saathi re

The reference to peepal tree in the song is taking me to another memory of a long time ago.  The movie ‘Naseem’ seen a long time ago on TV.   I have looked up the info on this film on imdb (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0241753/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1).

Today’s song is from a less known film – ‘Zindagi ke Mele’ (1956). The reason for selecting this song is that it is a duet of Shamshad and Rafi and is composed by my favourite composer Chitragupt – The King of Melody. For this film, his assistant was Dilip Dholakiya.
