This article is the 6000th song post in the blog. This article is the 1000th song for for Asha Bhonsle as a playback singer.

The year – 1997. For the first time ever (October ’97), an Indian artist is being honored as the ‘Artist of the Month’ by MTV channel on cable TV. At the age of 64, a Maharashtrian housewife who loves to cook, and is a grandmother, Asha Bhosle graced the honors. When Atul wrote to me in his usual polite way the other day that I must write a post on this song I was taken aback. I have been a (mostly silent) reader of his blog and I have even written a few pieces for it but none for a very long time. Perhaps he thought I might like to do this piece on Don’s “Khaike paan banaraswala” as most of my early pieces were on Amitabh Bachchan’s movies of that era as I am an unabashed AB fan. Welcome all to the 5200th offering on this blog. An enchanting journey that continues to grow from strength to strength, has reached another landmark today. It seemed just like yesterday that we hit the 5000 mark (it was on 13th November), and lo, we are already 200 songs even beyond that magic number today. Congratulations to all, and especially to Atul ji, for being the consistent driving force behind this effort. Besides being the 5200th post, this write up also celebrates the century of songs on this blog, by the music director Hansraj Behl.
