Today’s drunkard song is from the movie ‘Mawaali-1983’.
‘Mawaali-1983’ was directed by K. Bapaiyya for ‘Padmalaya Studios, Madras’. G. Hanumantha Rao was the producer of this ‘social’ movie passed by Censor Board on 28.10.1983.
By this time in 1983 I was studying in Std-XI with ‘PCM+ Vocational Subjects’. But, I was more interested in cricket and Rajesh Khanna movies than in my studies. But even then I had not watched this movie ‘Mawaali-1983’. I was averse to these Jeetendra movies coming from South directors except ‘Himmatwaalaa’ (since it was a first of its kind and discussed a lot then), ‘Tohfaa’ and ‘Maqsad’. ‘Tohfaa’ had some good songs and I watched it with many interested family members who had assigned me the task of booking the tickets for this movie.

Today’s song is from the film Ghar Ki Rani-1940, a bilingual film made in Hindi and Marathi (as Ardhangi).
The film, made by Huns Pictures-Bombay, was directed by Master Vinayak and the music director was Dada aka Shankar Vishnu Chandekar. The cast included Leela Chitnis, Vinayak, Meenakshi, Kusum Deshpande, Baburao Pendharkar, Damuanna Malwankar, Dada Salvi and others.

‘Sharaafat Chhod Dee Maine’ (1976) was produced by Damodaran Menon, VM Shah and Jagdev Bhambri and was directed by Jagdev Bhambri. The cast included Hema Malini, Feroz Khan, Neetu Singh, Jagdeep, Abhi Bhattacharya, Manmohan Krishna, Helen, Manju, Shera, Baby Madhu Malini, Mulchand, Yasmin, Jugal etc with special appearances of Bindu, Padma Khanna, Jayshree T, Faryal, Dev Kumar, Dheeraj, Tabrez, Jagdev Bhambri, Arpana Chaudhary and Laxmi Chhaya among others. Hema Malini had a double role of two sisters in the film.
The film was presented by Hema Pictures which gives the impression that Hema Malini was indirectly involved in the making of the film. Hema Malini’s niece, Madhoo made her debut in the film as Baby Madhu Malini. One of the highlights of the film was that the prominent dancers of that time, Helen, Padma Khanna, Laxmi Chhaya, Jayshree T. Bindu and Faryal, appeared in the film. Of course, there were dances of Hema Malini and Neetu Singh as well.

Today’s song is from a 90 year old film Janmabhoomi-1936.
The film was a Bombay Talkies presentation, directed by a German- Franz Osten and the Music was by Saraswati Devi ( real name Khorsheed Minocher-Homji). The cast of the film included Devika Rani, Ashok Kumar ( this was his only 3rd film), Pramila, Chandraprabha (sister of Saraswati Devi), P.F. Pithawala, Mumtaz Ali (father of comedian Mehmood), Sunita Devi and others.
