Hullo Atuldom

The song with this post was suitable for 19th August. 19th was the remembrance day of Khayyam the music composer who began his journey in Bollywood in 1947, when he sang a song with Zohrabai Ambalewali. His first as a music director was in 1948 as ‘Sharmaji’ of the ‘Sharmaji-Varmaji’ composer Duo. The statistics page of the blog says that Khayyam saab has given music to 377 songs in 42 movies. That may seem too little when compared with music directors who were active during that period; but each song of his were ‘pure pleasure on the ears’. Songs like ‘shaam-e-gham ki kasam’ (1953) or ‘tum apna ranj-o-gham’ (1964) are still popular as also the hits from the ’70s and ’80s: ‘aa jaa re, aa jaa re o mere dilbar aa jaa’, ‘kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai’, ‘dikhayi diye yun ke bekhud kiya’, and many more that I grew up listening to, of course at that age only the songs used to play in my head, I never knew details about singer, composer, lyricist etc.

POST NO. 1000
——————————-

I had never imagined that in my life I would ever write 1000 articles on old films and music. When I retired from my regular service in 1998, I had many offers from the Pharma Industry, because of my 35 years’ successful track record. I had joined the Pharma giant – Glaxo Laboratories as a Medical Representative and retired as the General Manager – Marketing.

Celebrating 75th year of India’s independence
————————————————————

I was just talking to a friend, who is very much involved with charity work and NGO’s. I said to her that it is very important for us to be charitable in all walks of life, for the health and prosperity of our soul. Doing a small thing for someone else’s benefit, however small that thing may be, which might not require any great effort on our part, gives immense satisfaction to us. This is to be experienced and not imparted. Giving and sharing of knowledge, makes the job of a teacher and guide the most charitable one in my opinion. Giving of advice or offering verbal guidance is sometimes ridiculed. But if an experience is shared, helps someone reach a correct decision or destination, there is nothing like it, as an act of charity free of cost.

Today’s song is from a film of the First decade of Talkie films in India. After the advent of the Talkie films in India, with Imperial’s ” Alam Ara”, many strong filmmakers from the silent era jumped into the field of making Talkie films. Initially only Bombay and Calcutta were the two filmmaking centres, but soon, Kolhapur,Lahore, Madras and a few other places began making Talkie films.

Today’s song is not only from an unknown and very obscure film, it is also a 84 year old film and the song too is that old. May be that is the reason why even its Lyricist, the Music Director, the Heroine and most of the cast members are all unknown. Maybe because it was made in Lahore, the local actors must have been taken in and so they are not much known or heard about. This is precisely the reason why I chose a song from this film. This gives me an opportunity to dig up information from various new sources, which may not be so common and available to most people. Even otherwise very few people take so much effort to get desired information. It took me several days to gather information about the MD, the Lyricist and the Heroine, but I am glad that at the end I have something to offer to our readers, which may be rare and difficult to find.

Today’s song is from an obscure film-Paaro-1947. It was made by Navyug Film co. One of the partners of this film company was Marathi’s famous writer, novelist and journalist Acharya Atre. By coincidence, the name of the Music Director of film Paaro-47 was Rasheed Atre. He, of course, was Muslim and Acharya Atre was a Hindu Bramhin.

Hullo Atuldom

“Bond 303” (1985) was produced B.C. Devra and directed by Ravi Tandon. It was one of those movies that was in the making for a long time.

It was one of the three movies that had Jeetendra play a Spy- an Indian James Bond. His James Bond act began with his ‘mast bahaaron ka main aashiq’ in “Farz” (1967) continued with “Raksha” (1981) {in both these movies Jeetendra was Agent 116}. “Bond 303” was the third in that list.

Today’s song is from film Pehla Pyar-1947. Pehla pyar means First Love. Pehla is Pehla. I could never understand why it has to be called Pehla Pehla Pyar (1958 & 1994). Does it not make it Doosra Pyar ?
