Hullo Atuldom
Today’s date (10 cctober 2020) is rather unique. Fellow ASAD follower Satyajitji, from down-under, pointed it out. 10102020- “never before, never again” was the reaction to that from another regular follower of the blog. Of course it is a “unique arrangement of the numbers that form the date which is appreciated by our brain”. A true statement by our in-house encyclopaedia.
Today’s post is a rather difficult one too. Never before have I faced such a dilemma. It is a case of too many options. I sifted through a whole lot of songs before I made a choice.

“Man Pasand” (1980 – censored on 26-6-1980 and released on 11-7-1980) was among the first few movies whose music cassette was purchased by my father along with “Yaarana” when they hit the market. And since then I am a huge fan of their songs. I Know almost all of them by heart.
This was a movie produced by Amit Khanna and directed by Basu Chatterji. Rajesh Roshan was the music director and Amit Khanna himself wrote the lyrics. The movie itself was inspired by the famous stage play by George Bernard Shaw – ‘Pygmalion’ (first published in 1913), and also on the hugely popular iconic film ‘My Fair Lady’ (1964 – Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn). The movie stars Dev Anand, Tina Munim, Girish Karnad, Simple Kapadia, Leela Mishra, Jalal Agha (appears as a guest in the song with this post), Piloo Wadia and Mehmood.

Hullo Atuldom
We are into the last four months of the year. Just got the first positive message “Sab theek raha toh iss baar 31 December ko nayaa saal aane ki nahi, purana saal jaane ki party karenge”. (Wish I could write this in Devnagari) I am sure I need not translate this.
Just as I was sitting to write this our Peevesie messaged that “Josef-Born in Grace”, a movie that was her first independent assignment as costume designer, has won an award at the Madrid International Film Festival for Best Set Design at the awards function on Sunday evening (6th September). Incidentally that movie also got her, her life-partner and is from her in-law’s production house.
In a celebratory mood I asked her for her farmaish of an Asha Bhonsle song and today’s song is her choice. She has a love for that movie, its songs and the dress/costume (in particular) that Amisha Patel wore in the song. She reminds me that as a tiny-little girl she had also worn a similar Pink Skirt and White Top.

Remembering Kishore Kumar on his 91st Birth Anniversary :
teri gali main aata sanam
naghma wafa ka gaata sanam
tujhse suna na jaata sanam
phir aa jidhar aaya hoon magar
ye kehne main deewaana
khatm bas aaj ye wehshat hogi
aaj rusva teri galiyon mein muhabbat hogi
mere mehboob
Abhas Kumar Ganguly (born 4 August 1929 – 13 October 1987), became the famed Kishore Kumar of Hindi film world. Being a Bengali but born and brought up in hindi heartland and settling down to work in Bombay film industry to follow the footsteps of big brother, must have helped form a cosmopolitan outlook in his attitudes. I have just read the Wikipedia page on Kishore Kumar and found it enlightening in many ways. Some of the eccentric behavior described in the page, are funny and not so funny at the same time.

“Waqt Ki Deewaar” is a 1981 release. It had Neetu Singh, Sulakshana Pandit, Jeetendra, Pran, Kadar Khan, Amjad Khan, Satyen Kappu, Paintal, Preeti Ganguly etc.
There was one other important actor in the cast. An actor who didn’t have a ‘set image’ in Bollywood. He could fit into any role he signed up for. He has played father, father-in-law, boyfriend, etc to Jaya (Bachchan) Bhadhuri. We are talking of Sanjeev Kumar here. Born Harihar Jethalal Jhariwala in 1938, he made his debut in 1960 with a small role in “Hum Hindustani”. His first film as a protagonist was “Nishaan” which came in 1965. On the road to becoming an actor-star who could be banked upon to play any character that he was given, we have seen him play Dilip Kumar’s brother in the 1968 released “Sanghursh” and friend to Shammi Kapoor in “Sachchaai” (1969).

“Kaajal”(1965) was a movie that I knew little about when I was growing up. I watched this movie in 1978 when my went to college and my movie watching spree began with a vengeance. Those days, I only liked “new” movies and songs and scoffed at “old” movies and songs. But I had heard about old movies, so I would go and watch them when no “new” movie was there for me to watch. The old movies tended to run to empty house and so buying tickets for these movies was not a problem. I wondered if a day will come in future when one would be able to watch “new” movies with the same ease, without needing to queue up and black marketeers having a field day. Believe it or not, today we are actually in that situation where one can buy tickets of even brand new movies without needing to form a queue in the movie hall.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 36
—————————————————————————
This day ten years ago (viz 11 june 2010) saw as many as five songs being covered. Discussing as many as five songs in a day was quite rare those day. This feat was achieved only four times in previous seven months !
Following five songs were overed on 11 june 2010:-
| Song | Movie title-Year | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| Jeena kyaa aji pyaar binaa | Dhan Daulat – 1980 | 01 song posted (of 5) |
| Gayaa bachpan jo aayi jawaani | Aankhon Aankhon Mein – 1972 | All songs covered |
| Mere man ke diye | Parakh-1960 | All songs covered |
| Magar ae haseenaa e bekhabar | Dholak-1951 | All songs covered |
| Ham aankh michauli khelenge | Khandaan-1942 | All songs covered |
It is interesting to note that four films (out of five) covered that day are already YIPPEED. “Dhan Daulat”(1980) was on the other end of the spectrum. No other song from this movie has been discussed in last ten years !
