Today’s song is from the social film Albeli-1945.
There were 3 Same Title films in 1945, 1955 and 1974. To match it, there were 4 films titled Albela in 1851, 1971, 1990 and 2001. There was also Albela mastana in 1967.
This was a Talwar production, Calcutta film. Directed by its owner R.C.Talwar, it had music by G.A. Chishti. There were 2 lyricists – Shanti Swarup ‘Kaif’ and Chishti himself. HGFK, however, does not credit any song to any Lyricist or any singer. Thus, one has to depend upon his own judgement about the singer or believe the uploader’s mention.
The cast of the film was Ramola, Rooplekha, Manorama, Usha, Sunder, Heeralal and others. Film Albeli’s review came in the March – 46 issue of Film India magazine. As usual, Baburao Patel had nothing good to say about this film. The film’s story centred around the love affair of a street girl and a Gypsy boy, who is loved by two more girls. The film was released on 22-12-1945 at Central Cinema, Bombay. The story was by Talwar himself. Dialogues and Screenplay was by J.S.Casshyap. The film’s hero was Satish.

Today’s song is from an early era film – Jailor-1938.
1938 was an interesting year in the early life of the Talkie films. The film making studios had firm footing with a studio system and they tried a variety of subjects in their films. In the 88 Hindi films produced in 1938, one finds almost every Genre of film subjects, except perhaps the usual Folk stories and Historical themes. Comedy, Tragedy, Fiction, Jungle stories, Costume, Socials, Musicals, Mythologicals, you name it and you had it. Content and technical expertise had improved as films on famous novels were made.

Today’s song is from an obscure film called Paigham aka Message-1941.
The film was made by Chimanlal Desai’s banner Amar Pictures, Bombay. This Chimanlal Desai was the same person who had established Sagar movietone, along with Dr. Ambadas patel. In its time, Sagar was a famous studio, making several hit films. Chimanlal lost Sagar due this habit of gambling. The film was directed by his son Surendra Desai. Amar Pictures was named after the son of Surendra desai-Amar. Just being the son of a producer does not make one a good director. Surendra was an average director. His elder brother Virendra Desai was a good director, but he spoiled his own as well as Nalini Jaywant’s life, when he married the 16 year old Nalini. He was already married and had 2 children also.
Film Paigham 1941 had music by Gyan Dutt. The cast of the film included Sadhana Bose, Surendra, Anil Kumar, Protima Devi, Ansari, Sulochana Chaterjee and others. There were 11 songs in the film, written by Pt. Indra, Safdar Aah and Balam. There were 3 solos of Surendra and 3 duets with Sadhana Bose, 2 solos of Sadhana, 1 solo of Bulo C.Rani and 2 duets of Bulo C.Rani.

The film was made for Jeevan Pictures, Bombay. It was directed by G.P. aka Ganapatrao Pawar. He was the second husband of Lalita Pawar. The music was by C.Balaji. The cast of the film was Kanta Kumari, Madhav Kale, Indira Wadkar, Shakuntala Paranjape (it was her last Hindi film), Vimal Ghaisas (a renowned stage actress), Omkar Devaskar, Raja Pandit ( he was an actor, director and producer. He was the husband of actress Ratnamala. Thay had a son-Jai) and a few others.

Produced by N.C.Shah, the film was directed by P.L.Santoshi – who also wrote the film’s lyrics along with 2 more lyricists, namely D.N.Madhok and R.A.M. Khan. The cast of the film included Agha, Nadira,Gope,Omprakash, Bhagwan, Maruti, Anwar, Haroon, Krishna Kumari, Indira Bansal, Leela Gupte, Miss Kamal (wife of Maruti), Mumtaz (sister of singer Mubarak Begum) and many others including 2 artists with funny names- Chhota Gope and Bhootram !
