After ‘yippifying’ ‘Samundari Daku’ let us attack ‘Anjali’(1957) (Sorry, no attacking, just proceeding with this non-violent film) Chetan Aanand directed this 1957 film under the banner of ‘Kala Kunj Pvt. In my childhood and growing years thereafter I was very fond of listening to songs on Radio (Transistor). Other than ‘Binaca Geetmala’, some of the programs that I regularly listened to were S. Kumar’s ka filmi mukaddama, ek hi film ke geet, etc etc.
Other than filmi songs I used to listen mainly to BBC London service for news and especially for news on ‘cricket’ (‘khel samachar’).

Now, on recalling those days, I think that I started with this love for Radio when I was 9/10 yrs old, i.e. from 1977-78. It continued up to 1986 when I bought my first mono-cassette player (Philips). TV had invaded our lives by that time and I think that our first TV- a color Uptron TV- also came in 1986-87.

I still remember my school days when our cricket playing group used to meet every evening at the Colony recreation club. After going through the newspapers/ magazines in the library, we would hold discussions on various topics. Hindi films and their songs were naturally among the topics of discussions.

The discussions then were only in general terms and nowhere near as serious or detailed as the discussions on this blog now. We used to discuss the songs we liked and why we liked them, or songs that were popular and how one ranked them in order of our likings etc etc.

I am aware of the names of a few Hindi film names that have ‘Haathi’ in their title. The most famous of them being ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’. ‘Main Aur Meraa Haathi’, ‘Safed Haathi’ are two other such titles. Then there was another film having an Elephant as the central character in it which I watched in my childhood days and cannot forget (because of one of its songs – ‘maa tujhe dhoondhoon kahaan’) viz. ‘Maa-1976’.
