18th July 2012- nine years to the date since the first superstar of Bollywood passed away. An actor who charmed his way into the hearts of his (female) fans with a smile that reached his eyes and could express his emotions with his eyes.

The style with which he said “Pushpa, I hate tears”. Or the the way he said “why are you roing?” to his girlfriend (Farida Jalal) who has come to wish him ‘all the best’ as he is leaving for the war.

“Ghar Ka Chiraag” is a title that has been used twice in Bollywood- in 1967 and 1989. The 1967 film had a cast of Dharmendra, Waheeda Rehman, Balraj Sahni, Indrani Mukherjee, Dev Kumar, Biswajeet etc and had music by Madan Mohan for songs written by Kaifi Azmi. This was directed and produced by Jagdev Bhambri.

Today’s song is from the film Adhikar-1938. Made at Calcutta by New Theatres, the film was directed by P C Barua, who also acted in the film’s both versions-Bangla and Hindi. The film title was the same in both. While the Bangla version released on 12-1-1939, the Hindi version was delayed and released on 21-10-1939.
