Here is a very old song from an old and forgotten movie called “Nazma” (1943). This song is sung by two female singers. This song could be called a song of contrasting moods or a happy-sad song, where Sitara Devi exudes happiness and joy whereas Parul Ghosh sings with sadness and pathos.

26th January (Republic day) and 15 august (Independence day) are the two national days in India when National flag is hoisted all over the country. This blog also joins in the celebration. After this blog began in july 2009, we have had two independence days and two republic days. During those occasions, this blog discussed the the popular patriotic songs from Hindi movies. “Balam”(1949) is a movie that had Suraiyya in it alongwith Wasti,Nigar Sultana, Agha etc. This movie is also significant for the fact that Suraiyya and Lata sang together for the first time (out of a total of just five such occasions). I have in fact already discussed the first such Lata-Suraiyya duet which is O o pardesi musaafir kise kartaa hai ishaare .

Most of the songs discussed in this blog are created by those who are well known names or the usual suspects, as one may call them. But that does not mean that they were the only talents out there. Even the lesser known artists have helped build a good body of work as far as Hindi movie music is concerned. It is another matter that many of these songs lie hidden and buried and they are required to be dug up.

“Sunahre Din” (1949) was a movie where Raj Kapoor, a newcomer was paired opposite Rehana, an established star of the times. This movie had some nice songs in it and I have discussed a couple of songs from this movie already.

“Dilruba” (1950) has some awesome songs in it. In fact I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie. In fact I was so impressed with one song ( Dhak dhak karti chali jeewan ki rail re )of this movie that I had posted that as the 2000th song of this blog.
