Here is a very old song from an old and forgotten movie called “Nazma” (1943). This song is sung by two female singers. This song could be called a song of contrasting moods or a happy-sad song, where Sitara Devi exudes happiness and joy whereas Parul Ghosh sings with sadness and pathos.

26th January (Republic day) and 15 august (Independence day) are the two national days in India when National flag is hoisted all over the country. This blog also joins in the celebration. After this blog began in july 2009, we have had two independence days and two republic days. During those occasions, this blog discussed the the popular patriotic songs from Hindi movies. “Balam”(1949) is a movie that had Suraiyya in it alongwith Wasti,Nigar Sultana, Agha etc. This movie is also significant for the fact that Suraiyya and Lata sang together for the first time (out of a total of just five such occasions).
