“Do Dooni Chaar”(1968) was one of several movies that was based on William Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors”. “Angoor”(1980) too was based on the same story.

In my experience, one of them is – a B/C grade stunt film (the more obscure and forgotten, the better), an unfamiliar name of the lyricist, the voice of Rafi Sb, and the music of one of the lesser known music directors. And voila, you have a fabulous and memorable song. The song itself may be obscure, unfamiliar and possibly unheard for a long time. But once you hear it – it is all a ‘wow’.

Film ‘Benazir’ 1964 has eleven songs – too many by SDB standards and the 60’s fashion. The theme of a muslim social may have something to do with it. It could also be the reason that this time SDB paired with Shakeel Badayuni. Now that I have checked, SDB worked with Shakeel Badayuni in ‘Kaise Kahoon’ (1964) also. After ‘Pyaasa’ (1957), SD Burman seems to have worked with all major lyrics writers, from Majrooh, Hasrat, Kaifi Azmi, all the way up to Anand Bakshi in the 1970s, in films like ‘Aradhana’ (1969) and ‘Ishq Par Zor Nahin’ (1970).

The best thing about Holi songs is that in most cases, the message of colors is immediately apparent in the coloring of the lyrics. The songs get created in the spirit of Holi itself. It is a social and group celebrations, and the songs of this festival are sung by multiple singers, and performed by a multitude of players on the screen. And as we sit down to color code the lyrics, the resulting view is as colorful as the festival itself.

“Jhumroo”(1961) was a K S Production movie which was directed by Shankar Mukherji. I have found out that K S Stood for Kishore and Sharma, where Kishore meant Kishore Kumar and Sharma Meant Anoop Sharma, his secretary. Kishore Kumar had made Anoop Sharma as the producer of this movie instead of himself for tax purposes. He had done the same for his previous production, viz. “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi”(1958) as well.
