I have not seen “Wo Kaun Thhi” (1964) but I know that Manoj Kumar and Sadhana were the lead actors in this movie. I have discussed many patriotic songs from Hindi movies in this blog. But one of the most popular of all Hindi patriotic songs in a non movie song. This song , “ae mere watan ke logon” was created by C Ramchandra to boost the morale of the Indian Army who were then fighting external aggression against heavy odds.

I think I will not be entirely wrong if I say that one of the reasons songs appeal to all of us is not just because of the song itself. This may be true for a large majority of songs but I am sure each one of us has his or her own bouquet of songs that are special mainly of memories these songs represent.

During the golden era of Hindi movie music (circa 1950-1980), things were quite simple and rudimentary in most fields. Hindi movie songs tended to become popular only if the movie did better, and the movies did better only if they followed certain set formulaes.
