“Babu Moshai, zindagi badi honi chaahiye lambi nahi”
The exuberant, prophetic words enunciated by a character – terminally ill, fully aware of his fate, and yet living the life to its brim. Anand (1971), the character that captured the imagination of multiple generations of viewers, has gone down in the film history as the ultimate optimist and a very endearing idealist. The wonder that this film is, simply never ceases for me. The extrovert, loud mouthed, always hungry for a conversation, and food – in his filmi demise, he taught a valuable lesson for the living.

Yesterday, Atul ji has posted a song whose lyrics were sent in by Prakash ji. The song –“Kaise Mitti Ke Maadho Se Paala Padaa” . On screen, it is Leena Chandavarkar trying to woo an apparently unwilling Sanjeev Kumar who seemingly does not understand the moves she is making and the words she is singing. Or maybe he does, but is choosing to remain aloof and unconcerned. I remember this song from the radio listening days, but I saw the video only today. And as soon as the song started, and Leena Chandavarkar started to sing out her complaints to her ‘beau fatale’, I immediately recalled another song – same era, same pair of actors on screen, the same complaint. Well one difference, the mood in the song that I refer to, is a bit more explicit, and a bit more demanding.

There are qawwali’s and than there are some qawwali’s. Or should I say there are qawwalis and than there are some filmi qawwalis by Roshan. To begin with I am not a very big fan or a knowledgeable person to talk about qawwali, hence this flippancy 😉 .
