Fortunately or unfortunately (for my friends, readers and followers) I belong to the variety of people who take pleasure in bringing out the hidden rare gems from HFM, usually from the 60s and the 70s. In keeping with my passion for “Rare Hindi Film Songs” (RHFS is my group on FB), today, I present two forgotten gems from one single movie – “Raftaar” released in 1975.

A few days ago I heard this song on my mobile. There is huge collection of songs, come from where in my mobile I do not know. When the instrument was new, my daughter was trying out all functions in it. She has downloaded many old songs. This has to be one of them. For one born in 1990’s the 1970’s songs are old. I am getting to know what songs are there only now, since I thought to make use of the cache.

“Amaanat” (1975) was produced and directed by Shatrujit Paul. The movie had Manoj Kumar, Sadhana, Balraj Sahni, Mehmood, Achala Sachdev, Shashikala, Keshto Mukherji etc in it. This movie began in 1960s and its songs got released much before the movie. The movie itself had a very delayed release. Hullo to all Atulites

Morning times are the times when people generally listen to Bhajans and Pravachans and I am no different. Till a few years back my mornings used to begin with switching on the radio to Vividh Bharati or Radio Ceylon and music used to play through the day. Then the FM channels took over and there used to be a Channel Switching (or changing if I may say) exercise in between the various radio programmes and my own work activities. To add to the confusion, suddenly, TV went 24 hours along with giving us a bouquet of music channels to listen to. And then what happens to a music Buff like me? It was and is the biggest distraction for me especially during working hours.

Today (26 january 2014) is the 65th Republic day of India. It is easily the most important red letter day in the annals of independent India because India became a democratic republic on this day. Considering the old habits the Indians were used to for thousands of years, this was a new concept for Indians and many Indians have not fully reconciled to this concept even today, but this concept has paved the way for a nation where all Indians , irrespective of their backgrounds were guaranteed equality- something which was not guaranteed to them before 26 january 1950. Republic day also stresses the fact that India represents unity in diversity and that Indians, for all their diverse backgrounds can live and work with their fellow countrymen in harmony.

I have been watching and enjoying films since last 65 years and like all other Senior Citizen,I too have developed love for old films, old songs, old times, old customs and old memories. But I have ensured that my love of these ‘oldies’ is not blind or of extremist view. I do not have inflexible opinions about old or new things. I do enjoy many new things which have made life more comfortable and enjoyable, like computers,Mobile phones or TV serials etc.

In the 70s Brij Sadanah directed a string of movies after his “Victoria No. 203” became a hit. Almost all his subsequent movies had Pran and Ashok Kumar in central roles with the hero himself being of secondary importance. All his movies had a whole lot of people running after gold or diamonds or khazaana. Then there would be at least one song in disguise.

Greetings to all dear friends and readers on the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha (Eid-ul-Adha) today (16th October, 2013).

This festival is one of the two Eid celebrations as per the Islamic calendar. Today’s celebration is the more significant and the more important of the two Eid festivals, the other one being the Eid-ul-Fitr, that is celebrated at the end of the holy month of Ramzaan (Ramadan). It is also known as Eid-al-Kabir in Arabic, that means ‘the Greater Eid’. In north India, it is also called by the name ‘Badi Eid’.
