With the advent of sound films in India in 1931, many actors faced difficulties in on-screen performances with their voices. Only few actors of silent films who could, fluently or otherwise, speak Urdu and Hindi made a transition from silent to talkies. Master Vitthal, Master Nissar, Mazhar Khan, Prithviraj Kapoor, Baburao Pendharkar, Raja Sandow, Hiralal, Patience Cooper, Zubeida, Sulochana (Ruby Mayers), Gohar Mamajiwala, Madhuri (Beryl Claessen), Sabita Devi (Irin Gasper), Gulab, Jillo Bai, Lalita Pawar, Durga Khote etc were some of the actors who switched over from silent to talkies without much of difficulties. A few of them even learnt speaking Hindi and Urdu during the transition.

Rafi Sahab’s Legendary Associations – 3
———————————–————––———
Sar jo tera chakraaye, Ya dil dooba jaaye
Aa jaa pyaare paas hamaare, Kaahe ghabraaye
Kaahe ghabraaye. . .
Ae dil hai mushkil jeena yahaan
Zara hatt ke zara bach ke
Yeh hai bombay meri jaan. . .
Jaane kahan mera jigar gaya ji
Abhi abhi yahi thha kidhar gayaa ji. . .
Gareeb jaan ke hum ko na tum mita dena
Tumhin ne dard diya hai tumhi dawaa denaa
Just to list a few of the famous Rafi solos and duets for Johny Walker.
This series is about collaborations and team work by Rafi Sahab for various artists, mainly with composers, singers and lyricists. But since the song I stumbled upon is too good, atypical rendition by Rafi Sahab for Johnny Walker, as we know the veteran comic actor. So I have included this in the series.

[Ed Note: Delayed by 3 days on our account, this post was received in email just past midnight on 17th March. It should have posted on 18th. The reference to the dates in the article should be taken from 17th March.]
Hullo Atuldom
18th March 2012 was the first time I sent a contribution to Atulji in the form of lyrics of one of Deewaar’s songs – “Maine Tujhe Maanga Tujhe Paaya Hai“. That happened to be Shashi Kapoor’s 74th birthday. That post also marked 300 songs of Sahir Ludhianvi on the blog. It is nine years since then and we touched 700 songs of Sahir on the blog recently. That was post number 5655 for the blog considering that we had touched 2900 on 3rd September 2010 and those days the blog was chugging along at a great speed.

Today’s song, like the previous song of “Jurm”(1990) discussed by me, is from a very recent movie ‘Criminal-1995’. The movie made its debut on the blog on 05.09.2008, with its beautiful romantic song ‘tu miley dil khile aur jeene ko kya chaahiye’. After that no song of this movie has been discussed so far.
Today after a gap of ‘4580’ days (breaking earlier record 😊 ‘4579’days) we are going to listen to the second song of this movie in the blog. Like others I was also not aware of the other songs of this movie except its song ‘tu miley dil khile aur jeene ko kya chaahiye’.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Jurm-1990’.
By the standards of this blog ‘Jurm-1990’ is a very recent movie. This movie made made its debut on the blog during its early days, viz on 12.09.2008 with its ‘heart-touching’ song ‘jab koi baat bigad jaaye, jab koi mushqil pad jaaye’. This song is said to be inspired by the song “500 miles” (Peter Paul & Mary version/ brothers four version).

Today’s song is very special. It is from a totally unknown film- Sach hai-1939. Still, it is a special song. I say so because it is the First song sung by Suresh Babu Mane on this Blog. I know, nay, I am sure that 99 % of our readers may raise their eyebrows with this name, because they will not know who he was.

If you search in google for ‘history of post cards in India’ top of the results yields this result;
In July 1879, the Post Office of India introduced a quarter anna postcard that could be posted from one place to another within British India. This was the cheapest form of post provided to the Indian people to date and proved a huge success. … The postcard facility continues to this date in independent India.

Regulars on the blog are aware of how some members of this blog are fond of talking about our social institutions or our public transports and communication, like railways and post departments specifically.
Actually, it would not be wrong to say that some members like me are madly in love with the railways and postal departments in our country. And why not, both the railways and postal departments have their presence all over the country and these services also play major roles in nation building and national integration. I have a BIG nostalgia associated with both of these services.
