Today is a special day for Kaka fans. It would have been his 78th birthday.
On this occasion here is a song which is from Kaka a.k.a Jatin Khanna popular among his fans as Rajesh Khanna’s productional debut. “Alag Alag” (1985). It was produced by Rajesh Khanna and Kusum Narula, under the banner of Aashirwaad Films International, Bombay.

Hullo Atuldom
I have been getting reminders and ‘pokes’ (a term from Facebook) in the form of personal messages from a few Atulites who are asking me why the sudden slump on my part. Now I know what Atulji goes through when all of us question him on “Blank days”. I also am feeling like the first-follower of the blog ‘Rajaji’ who took a few weeks to reach his 200th post with ghodi pe hoke sawaar.
This slump can be attributed to the festival season and having my Mom-in-law for company. I would like to copy-paste a thought that Rajaji has written in his 200th post (sorry for not taking your permission Rajaji)
“No excuses though – if Atul can write up and post songs every single day, I just cannot have an excuse for taking five weeks for one post. :-)”.
In spite of the mentioned reasons I managed to sneak in my post number 399 and that was only 10 days back.

I am not well-informed about Hindi films of 1980s and beyond, except about those that I have watched in the theatres or on Video sharing platforms. Between the late 1960s and early 1970s, I used to watch almost one film every week either on Saturdays or Sundays. My ‘over-exposure’ to films, mostly masala films, during this period created an aversion in me that discuraged me from watch theese films in the later years. Probably the theory of diminishing marginal utility was being applied to me. Over a period of time, my quota of watching films came down from once a week to 2-3 films a year which is still in force. Because of this, I have missed many entertaining and a few quality films released especially in 80s and 90s.

Wishing all a happy Dassera. I know parts of India celebrated the festival on Sunday and parts are celebrating it today. I think that has something to do with the movement of the Moon from one constellation to another or mostly the phases of the moon which doesn’t necessarily follow the Gregorian calendar. So the dream girl is turning 7 & 2, 72. This same way we should make 2 & 2, 22. Right ? wrong, imdb is making “two and two make five”, in simple translation of the movie “Do aur do paanch”(1980). They have “Athiest” for “Nastik”, “The patriot” for “Deshpremi” and “Blind law” for ‘Andha Kanoon”. This is great going. But they go a step ahead and translate “Naseeb” as “Destiny and Fate”, whereas “Dard” is “Conflict of emotion”. I learnt today that ‘Trishul” is “Trident” and “Kasauti” is “Criterion” in English. Many of the 173 films listed in the filmography have been left alone, to dwell in their hindi/urdu quagmire. Some titles like ‘Shareef Badmash” ‘Sharafat” ‘Sholay” ‘Sachhe ka bolbalaa”, “ Ek chadar maili si”,”Jise tu qubool kar le” and ‘Maan Gaye ustaad” have been wisely given a wide berth.

“Coolie” was released on 2nd December 1983. It was produced by Ketan Desai and directed by Manmohan Desai. Kadar Khan was the script writer as also the dialogue writer. It starred Waheeda Rehman, Rati Agnihotri, Shoma Anand, Rishi Kapoor, Kadar Khan, Satyen Kappu, Goga Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, Om Shivpuri, Nilu Phule, Ashalata (who passed away recently),and Shubha Khote, Amrish Puri and Mukri in guest appearances. Of course it had Manmohan Desai cast Amitabh Bachchan in the title role with an Eagle as his companion. The Eagle was called Allah Rakha in the movie.

11/10/2020 – 78th Birthday of Amitabh Bachchan

A few days ago I saw this whatapp forward video, where a few Africans were singing this hindi song “rote rote hansnaa seekho hanste hanste rona”. This song is a known song, often heard on radio, but not recently seen or heard.
I knew it was a song sung on screen by Amitabh Bachchan. I checked the blog, to find it was not posted. This is a well-known song from 1983 film “Andhaa Kanoon”, where Amitabh Bachchan’s role was supposedly a guest appearance. Getting the lyrics of this song was a breeze, as I knew the lyrics and lines of stanza’s.
