This is a song from film Jaalsaaz-59. This film was made at a time when Kishore Kumar as a Comedian Hero was in his Top form and people used to go to theatres only to watch his antics and listen to the songs sung by him. Little importance was given by moviegoers to the, plot or histrionics in a Kishore Kumar film. There were other artists and movies to take care of good acting and good storylines, whereas Kishore Kumar movies offered something different, namely good laughs and entertainment, paisa-vasool style !

“Houston, we have a problem.”

This famous quote from the Hollywood film ‘Apollo 13’ (1995) pertains to the problem on board NASA’s unsuccessful mission to the moon. Though there is a different version to the line from NASA’s actual transcript, the phrase has now become part of everyday language for reporting any kind of problem.

Greetings to Dear Lord Ganesh on the celebration of His birthday today.
Good wishes of auspiciousness, prosperity and happiness to all readers and friends – may your household be blessed with His presence, today and always.

Lord Ganesh – probably the most recognized representation of the Sanaatan Dharm.  With a form that is like an elephant from neck above, His image is the most easily identifiable, in the entire pantheon of the Gods of our Dharm.  Around the globe, this image with the trunk and ears of an elephant is the most easily associated icon with our country and our belief systems.

Festivals are integral part of our culture and traditions. And the films, songs associated with mythological themes, festivals are integral part of nostalgia of music lovers like me and those who grew up listening such songs in their respective ‘formative years’ of life.

I still remember my school days when our cricket playing group used to meet every evening at the Colony recreation club. After going through the newspapers/ magazines in the library, we would hold discussions on various topics. Hindi films and their songs were naturally among the topics of discussions.

The discussions then were only in general terms and nowhere near as serious or detailed as the discussions on this blog now. We used to discuss the songs we liked and why we liked them, or songs that were popular and how one ranked them in order of our likings etc etc.

Today, the 4th of August, is a day we celebrate as the birth anniversary of one of Hindi film industry’s undoubted geniuses, Kishore Kumar.

The term “genius” tends to get thrown around rather loosely and frequently nowadays, much like terms like “legend” and “great”. This is all the more reason why I am rather cautious when I use it and certainly don’t throw it around.

Having said that, I have absolutely no hesitation in using it for Kishore Kumar (or Kishoreda as he is fondly referred to by his friends and fans). Kishore da was one of those rare individuals who tried his hand at many dimensions of the industry – and left a mark with most of them. In a sense, he can be called a true harfan maula of the industry.

As has been mentioned in the earlier posts of the day, today (19 july 2015) is the seventh birth anniversary of this blog. One single article was posted on the first day of the blog in 2008. The blog remained one song a day blog for the first forty days and then we began to post several articles every day. Today, seven year later, the blog has well over elevent thousand songs. If one takes an average, it turns out to be an average of 4.5 songs per day. Come to think of it, maintaining this daily strike rate for seven years is quite an achievement.
