Today (13 november 2019) is the birthday of Juhi Chaawla (DoB 13 november 1967).
Juhi Chawla, alongwith the likes of Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, Jayaprada etc was from my generation viz born in 1960s). 🙂
Indian actresses holding their own in inernational beauty pageants and they going on to become popular matinee idols was not all that common those days. Juhi Chawla became Femina Miss India in 1984. She then participated in Miss Universe competition, winning the best costume award there.

Hullo Atuldom
Let us all wish the Baadshah of Bollywood on his 54th birthday.
Wish this was an audio post, then I would have started my post with what we used to hear on the radio Ads in the 70s and 80s. I would have first played a line “aashiq hoon main qaatil bhi hoon” then after the voice over by a Vijay Behl or Ameen Sayani or a Vinod Sharma or it could be Harish Bhimani (I don’t remember the names of all the announcers, sorry) the Radio Ad would have closed with the repeat of the last line of the mukhda of the song – “Baadshah o baadshah, baadshah hey baadshah, baadshah”.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The recipient is honoured for their “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs 1,000,000 (US$14,000). Presented first in 1969, the award was introduced by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian cinema. Phalke (1870–1944), who is popularly known as and often regarded as “the father of Indian cinema”, was an Indian filmmaker who directed India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra.

hullo to all of Atuldom
Yesterday (13 august 2019) was the birth anniversary of our dear Sridevi, hailed as the first female superstar of Bollywood. I was not liking it that we had let it go without a post. Then last thing before I switched off for the day, I saw a song on some satellite channel and had my ‘eureka’ moment. I found a song from the later period of Sridevi’s career when she had started experimenting with the characters she played.

Hullo All
Todays’ post features a rather new song. It is only 19 years old. It is from “Fiza” (2000) which was directed by Khalid Mohammed who used to be known as a film critic before he got into film-making. He has made “Fiza”; “Zubeida”; “Tehzeeb” and “Silsilay”. He is also the son of yesteryear actress Zubeida about whom our in-house encyclopaedia has written in this article.

Has anyone seen today’s google doodle?!!!!
It is dedicated to our dear Mogambo a.k.a Durgaprasad Bharadwaj a.k.a Chaudhry Baldev Singh a.k.a Thakur Durjan Singh a.k.a Balwant Rai a.k.a Kishorilal a.k.a Amrish Puri. He would have been 87 today.

Feels like they have appreciated some one close to our family. The doodle shows him in the look he sported for DDLJ – ‘Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ (1995) as Chaudhry Baldev Singh. That movie is remembered as much for the last scene where the Chaudhry tells his daughter,
“jaa beta jaa. Apni Raj ke paas jaa. Jaa Simran, jee le apni zindagi jaa beta jaa”
The last scene can be seen on YT at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAaL5HZC5YI. The movie is remembered for this last scene, as much for all the romance and romantic songs that it had.

When I was in school, we had some “boring” subjects like, History, Geography, Social Science etc. These were “arts” subjects and were considered low scoring as well.
When I think about it now, I realise that History text book basically used to be like a collections of a few chapters and each chapter was like a story of a particular era. For instance, first chapter was Ramayana. second Chapter was Mahabharata. Third chapter was Mauryavansh (Chandragupta Maurya , Samrat Ashok etc. A few chapters later, we were into Mughal era (Akbar, Shahjahaan etc, and then British Era.
