What is going on today? I am sure this question is worrying the minds of quite a few if not many or all regulars of this blog. Atul ji seems to be in a big hurry today. Seven posts already since his first good morning call at 5 am. Aha, so getting to the century number it seems. Yeah, ok, that’s it, he wants to complete the century, and make the century post today. But why? What is the tearing need? Is there a birthday not known to anybody? Is it a special day for someone on the bandwagon or in the industry? The anniversary page has no listing for today. ये क्या हो रहा है? क्या चल रहा है?

Mega milestone.
Mega event.
And a Mega Rare song being discovered.
Given the age of online proliferation and sharing, it is a great event that one chances to discover a film song that one does not even begin to imagine may even exist.
Of course yes, the song is identified and listed in the Geet Kosh. But as is the case with the majority of the listed songs in the 1931-40 volume of Geet Kosh (Volume I), we do not even pause to glance at the list of songs on page after page, unless we come across a fuller body of description for a film of that era. And verily so. Out of the close to 9,900 hundred songs listed for 930+ films that are slated for that decade, sadly enough, less than 1,200 are actually available at this time. That is the state of affairs we have at this time.

Today (27 March 2022) is one of those days that arrives regularly in the blog. It is the century post day. Moreover, it is an even more special day for the blog. Today is the 5000th day of the blog !
The fact that today is the 5000th day of the blog was known for quite some time. The idea that this day should coincide with the century post germinated a few days ago, even though it meant that we needed to go at a slower rate than even the already slow rate for the blog.

Centuries – pivotal events. And always welcome. Give us a quantized measure of manageable progress. Like one part of a lo..ong project accomplished. Or like completing one cycle of an endless process. Would we like to compare with the earth going around the sun? Maybe not a good idea. A century taking 365 days to complete. Or maybe compare to Victor Trumper and Don Bradman and Majid Khan – getting a century in the very first session of a test match. Publishing the blog century post brings some anxious moments. One has to worry about the song that should be used for the occasion. It also calls for more efforts than usual as far as writeup is concerned.
But once the century post is published, one tends to relax for the next 99 songs. The next century post occasion will not arrive for many months, so I can relax- this is the usual feeling. With passage of time, we in this blog have become sedate and relaxed, as befits people who have matured (read aged). 🙂 Things that we found exciting in the past fail to enthuse us any longer. The sense of keen anticipation is no longer there. People in the past would begin to think and talk in advance about forthcoming important blog events. That is no longer the case.
Take the case of Blog Century posts. This regular event used to be a keenly anticipated event in the past, even when such an even used to occur once every fortnight. Today, this event has become more rare and happens once in two months (or more), and yet goes largely unnoticed.

Slowly, steadily, and unnoticeably, the blog reaches yet another blog century. This post is post number 16500 for the blog. In other words, this song is the 165th century post for the blog.
When I thought about writing an article to go with post, I considered going through all the previous century posts. I kept going backwards from 164th century post, 163rd century post. After ten such posts, I gave up. If someone thinks that 164 songs and 164 song articles is a small number, then please try to do that exercise yourself. If one has to make a playlist of these century songs, the entire playlist will play for more than eight hours !

This Week, That Year – 7

Celebrations today – the first item of order. Yes, the two numbers above are telling a telling tale (pardon the pun please). I have been on board now, well, it seems all my life now. Yes, so many years ago. And as we continue this relentless beat forward, I continue to keep marveling – at the fact that the blog seems to have gotten a life of its own and the bandwagon continues to chug along merrily.
It is stated often – the destination is not of any import. It is the journey that has to be enjoyed. And as this blog keeps growing from height to height and going from strength to strength, these minor milestones and even the major milestones have really become a matter of routine. Ok yes – another century, well, this number of days, well, this average of songs per day, well. . . As I said, just a matter of routine that these stations come and go past quickly.
