We are on the last date of the first month of the 21st year of the 21st century.
January happens to be a cold month in the northern hemisphere of the earth. And India is in the middle of having winter which is characterized by fog, mist, cold winds etc depending on the Latitude that one resides on. When I used to be in Mumbai, the closest I came to experiencing ‘Sardi’, ‘Thandi’ etc was in the last week of December or first week of January. That too in the morning hours, till about 8 o’clock, then the thermometer would read round about 27 and 30 degrees Celsius during the day. I don’t remember seeing fog or mist there, but I had different climatic experiences once we shifted to Bangalore. I have seen all winter related features which last from November to January end with temperatures dropping to 10 degrees etc. Now in my current station, which is in the midst of lots of greenery and away from the hustle bustle of city-life, though the temperature did not touch 10 degrees on any day, we have been experiencing thick fog, cold winds, cold floors, etc.

Today’s song is from the film Khush Naseeb-46. It was an ordinary social film made by Indra Movietone. Directed by V. panchotiya, the film had music by Anupam Ghatak and Pt. Lachhiram Tomar. We do not know who wrote the film’s 12 songs or even who sang these songs. Only few songs(actually only 2) are available on YouTube and the uploader ( Sadanand Kamath ji) has identified singers by voice, wherever possible. The limited cast mentioned in HFGK lists names as Padma Devi, Rukmini Devi, Anjali Roy, Bela Rani and V.Panchotiya. This too being incomplete, we do noit have any idea about its Hero or other artistes.

Deepika Padukone, daughter of champion badminton player Prakash Padukone, herself a national level player, entered the glamour world of films through the modelling route. She is one of the highest paid actresses currently and winner of three filmfare awards for acting. 2006 was her debut year in Kannada films and 2007 saw her debut in Hindi films through Farah Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om.’ Since then she has had a mixed bag of fortune as far as successful movies are concerned, but she hasn’t shied away from experimenting with the characters she plays on-screen. I am not attempting a tribute to the great favorite of millions of Hindi film music lovers. I am sure there are many Atulites who are competent and will do a great job of it.
I am just presenting HFM lovers a song which is not from a Hindi movie. I landed on this song as I was going through the discography of the singer whose voice has mesmerized an entire generation and his fans exist across the length and breadth of this vast country and beyond the boundaries.
