8th September – Birthday of Asha Bhonsle
————————————————————-

There are 25 songs tagged as ‘Tasweer’ (https://atulsongaday.me/category/tasweer-song/) song in the blog. Some of the stellar songs have missed the tag and have given a miss to the tag of ‘Tasweer’. I have listed a few such songs which I can refer to off-hand:

Tasweer Banaata Hoon Tasweer Nahin Banti

Ye Zulf Kaisi Hai

I feel as if some more significant songs are missing from my list above as well as the tagged page. So, the list is incomplete.

A ‘tasveer’ is something which tells a story. Be it a still image, a painting, a motion picture or mural. Imaginary or factual, reflection in reverse or converse. Not always needing a camera to capture it, just a glance is indelible sometimes. Moments captured in memory forever.

Today’s song is from a ‘C’ grade stunt film Al Hilal aka The judgement of Allah- 1958.

Those readers who keep a track of old films may remember that way back in 1935, Sagar Movietone had produced a film of the same name Al Hilal. It was the first film of Mehboob Khan as a Director and the film had Kumar and Sitara Devi as the lead pair. That film was quite successful and even Baburao Patel of Film India magazine had praised not only the film but also hailed Mehboob Khan as a Diamond for Future.

Today’s song is from the film ‘Road No. 303’ (1960).

This film was special in many respects. Let’s start with it’s title. Among the total of 3240 Talkie films made in the first 30 years of Hindi films (1931-1960), only 19 Hindi films had titles which actually had numbers in their Titles. The first one to have a numerical figure in its title was Miss 1933 (1933) and the last one to have it was today’s film Road No. 303 (1960). Just for information of our readers, there were 7 such film titles in the 1930’s (total films 924), only 4 such film titles in the 1940’s (total films 1191) and 8 such film titles in the 1950’s (total films 1125). There were hundreds of film titles having figures in words, like ‘Ek Thi Ladki’, ‘Do Gunde’, ‘Teen Batti Char Rasta’ etc. but numbers in titles were a novelty.

Today’s song is from a Costume drama-Jalti Nishani-1957.

There was another film Jalti Nishani made in 1932, by Prabhat Film Company of Poona. It was a bilingual film, made in Hindi and Marathi and the Marathi version was titled ” Agni kankan” ( अग्नी कंकण ). That was the usual story of an honest king, a bad Vazir, a runaway queen with her son and the revenge taken after 20 years. The 1957 film with the same title had almost a similar story with some variations. This film was made by Emsheth productions, produced aptly by a rich person called A.G.Dhanik. It was directed by Tara Harish and the melodious music was provided by the grand old man of Hindi film music – Anil Biswas.
