Missing Films of 1960s – 100
Ah, finally, we get to a new type of century today. This series of bringing on board the missing films of 1960s becomes the series that has clocked 100 posts – a first one for our blog. This series got initiated three and half years ago on 30th September, 2015, and we arrive at the century station for it, at the rate of about 2 to 3 songs per month on average. The pace could have been faster, yes, but well, we have what we have. 🙂

Missing Films of 1960s – 99
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
OK wow, we are at 99 for this series today. 🙂
The surprising thing is that this film is not yet on the blog. It is not obscure, it is not unfamiliar, it is not starring unfamiliar faces, it does not contain unfamiliar or unheard songs, and the songs are good to be heard. So then, how come?

Today’s song is a rare song from film Salma-1943.
Like in my earlier post on film ‘ Arab ka Sitara’-46 dt 13-3-2019, in this Blog, about 3-4 years ago also I had discussed the issue of very few films made in India, on Muslim Social issues and also on other minority communities, for that matter. One of our readers from USA, Mr. Salim Shah-son of actress Indurani aka Ishrat jehan siddiqi- wrote an E mail to me on this issue. He had said that the film market is driven by the needs of the majority and hence not many producers dare to make films on minorities, which have a very small and limited market. I agreed, as this was a very logical explanation to my loud thinking.

This song is from Master Bhagwan’s film ‘Damaad’ (1951).
This is the film which inspired Bhagwan to write a comedy social musical film story for his evergreen film Albela. In the decade of 1940’s, Bhagwan had specialised in low budget C grade action and stunt films. Usually his films would be completed in Rs. 60 to 70 thousand rupees only. He used to churn out films after films with the same set of actors with almost the same story in all his films. The audience of Master Bhagwan’s films came to the theatre to see his antics and comedy, coupled with action scenes of fighting and incredible stunts.

Today’s song is from an old, obscure film, Paak Daman-40.
The meaning of the word Paak Daman is Spotless Character. It has several other meanings depending on its usage. Generally this word is used to describe a woman of Chastest character and without any blemish.

Missing Films of 1960s – 98
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
It is such a delight to ferret out unheard songs from obscure and unfamiliar films. So many times, I come across the film names and then move on because it is unfamiliar. So many times I pause at a film folder in my collection, thinking whether I have opened it before. But then usually, other pressing matters take precedence and I say ‘oh well’, and move on.

Hullo Atuldom
Happy Holi!
Some movies have a lot of memories attached to them. Yash Chopra’s “Chaandni” is one such movie. The year was 1989 and I had been to Mumbai (maayka) for my delivery. So, I had a lot of free time when I could interact with all my friends and neighbours like never before (and never have I had a similar opportunity too) 😉 that made that visit to Mumbai special. For those Atulites who know me- I had shifted out of Mumbai post marriage and so the term “visit to Mumbai”.
Getting back to “Chaandni” – those were the days when there were VCRs in many home and people used to rent Video Cassettes of movies which they couldn’t see in the theatres. I have seen a few movies in that way in the company of my neighbour’s family and more importantly their son. Their son was a year or two older to me so he was a mentor, guide, friend, idol and so many other things for me. To start off (as was the norm in those times) he was my Rakhi bro but we had a different equation between the two of us. He being my idol – I started liking Rekha- his favourite and he, on his part, made an effort to like Amitabh because he doted on me. Whatever love I have for physics, all branches of mathematics, and history is because I followed his way of studying them.
