Today is the 98th birth anniversary of a venerated poet and song writer in our Hindi film industry. He is one of those lyricists in the industry, who has a significant portfolio of work but not much is known about his personal life. We only know that he started to work in the Hindi films in 1942. On our blog, the last two posted songs written by him are “Main Nainon Ka Saawan Bhulaane Chali Hoon”, and “Ek Gagan Panth Ka Pakheru”.

Today, July 7, 2017 is the 103rd birth anniversary of Anil Biswas (07/07/1914 – 31/05/2003) who defined the Hindi film music at its incipient stage in Bombay film industry. It is a double celebration for him as the song to be discussed today will be his 300th song on the Blog.

Today, 6th July, is the remembrance day of music director Sardul Kwaatra, who passed away this day in 2005. Four years ago, on this occasion, I have posted a detailed article on this ‘impressive and talented composer who failed to impress’ with the song “Aa Gaye Aa Gaye Aa Gaye”.

Today’s song is from film ‘Ratnavali’ (1945). The film has 8 songs tuned by Pt. Gobind Ram. Two songs of this film are already discussed on our blog. This is the third song, sung by Rajkumari. The film was made by Amar Pictures and the director was Surendra Desai.

This article is the 13400th song post in the blog.

Have you ever wondered. . .

how a song gets constructed?

and why a song is termed as a tip of the iceberg?

You must now be thinking – this is a peculiar but a very interesting intro to the 134th century post on the blog. So yes, before getting into the discussion on the proposed topic, congratulations are in order. Welcome all to the 13 thousand 4 hundredth post on our blog. The musical bandwagon rolls on – toiling, pleasing, emotionally invigorating – it continues to move tirelessly. Because. . . because music – must be there. The world, this nature – all are moving to a rhythm, and a melody. Music is instilled in everything every entity we know, we touch, we think of. But come to think of it, we do not often think of this world that way i.e. music in everything, everyday of our lives. We are so consumed with the process of existence and living day to day, that we forget to stop and smell the flowers (or smell the coffee, if you are in America). And the music of life gets hidden behind the other sundries. Often we forget to think about it.

taqdeer ka fasaana. . .

So much to be said for destiny and luck. Especially in an industry as unkind and pitiless, as the film industry. They always say, success sells; nothing succeeds like success. But then what to say of success stories that really didn’t go any place.

Today’s song is from film Raajkanya-55. It is a wonderful song by Rafi. Written by G.S.Nepali, it has been composed by the king of melody, my favourite Music Director Chitragupta.

Today (30 june 2017) is the birth anniversary of Kalyanji (30 june 1928-24 august 2000 ) of the well-known Kalyanji-Anandji music composer duo. Or K-A, in short. I’ve written here on the occasion of the anniversary of several artistes. Composers, lyricists, actors, directors.  In fact most of my posts here are to do with some occasion or the other.

Today’s song is from film ‘Chaand Taara’ (1945). This song is sung by Noor Mohammed ‘Charlie ‘ and chorus. Today (30th June) is the anniversary of Charlie’s passing away in 1983. This song is in his memory. This song also happen to be a parody song. No, no, I am not doing a series on parody songs. It is just a coincidence that I got hold of a second rare song which is also a parody song.

I did not have much idea about the film ‘Mehmaan’ (1953) except its star cast. But I have been mesmerised by its 8 melodious songs, two of which have so far been covered in the Blog. The film was directed by Ramanand Sagar, his first film as a director. The star cast included Premnath, Nimmi, Sajjan, Purnima, Radhakishan, Bikram Kapoor, Harish, Mumtaz Begum etc. With Nimmi in the lead role, one would expect a lot of melodrama, sufferings, unexpected twists in the love story etc.
