[Ed Note: With sincere apologies to the author and the readers. This write up was delivered to the editors much in advance of the blog anniversary date. It is our oversight that we missed posting it on 19th July. The lapse is regretted.]

As the blog turns 11 today, we can celebrate the first step in the double digit age milestone.  Numerilogically, 11 means 1+1=2 . Does this mean second stage of second phase ?  Or 11 simply means gyarah number ki bus.  Mumbaikar’s know that gyarah number bus means ‘to walk on two feet’.  Walking walking we have reached the 15000 plus figuratively.

So. . . its “Chalte Chalte Mere Ye Geet Yaad Rrakhna. . .  Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. . . Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. . .

Hullo to all in Atuldom

July the 3rd is the date when the son of a favorite singer of mine, who is equally my favourite turns a year younger. It is the 67th birthday of Amit Kumar Ganguly. The all-rounder musician – he is a playback singer and music director in addition to being an actor and director.
He made his acting debut as an 11 or 12-year-old in “Door Gagan Ki Chaon Mein” (1964) and had his father singing for him “aa chal ke tujhe main leke chaloon ek aise gagan ke tale”. He played a mute kid whose eyes conveyed a lot of emotion. His eyes still convey a lot of emotion- we mostly see mischief there. 🙂 His next screen appearance was again with his father in a short role in “Door Ka Rahi” (1971). “Main ik panchchi matwala re” was a song that was recorded for the movie which was later edited out from the final cut of the movie and used inn a later Kishore Kumar production “Mamta Ki Chaon Mein”. Whatever acting he has done is mostly in movies produced by his father. He has acted in about six movies and took on the mantle of director to complete his fathers’ “Mamta ki Chaon Mein” which released in 1989; two years after his father, the legendary Kishore Kumar, passed away.

“Dheere Dheere“ –

Dheere Dheere Machal Ae Dil-e-Beqaraar

Dheere Dheere Chal Chaand Gagan Mein

Dheere Se Jaana Bagiyan Mein O Bhanwra

Dheere Se Aa Ja Ri Ankhiyan Mein Nindiyaa Aa Ja Ri Aa Ja

Dheere Dheere Bol Koi Sun Na Le

Dheere Chal Dheere Chal O Bheegi Hawa

O More Sainya Ji Utrenge Paar Re Nadiyaa Dheere  Baho

Pal Pal O Pal Samay Tu Dheere Dheere Chal

Then there are songs have the word in different context, like;

O Gaadi Waale Gaadi Dheere Haank Re

Man Re Tu Kaahe Na Dheer Dharay

And this category of songs cannot be thought of without the superbly melodious “Dheeme Dheeme Gaaun, Dheere Dheere  Gaaun”.

All the above songs are already posted in the blog.  I had actually planned to do a series on ‘dheere dheere’ songs.  I also have plans for a few more such word based theme posts.   But for all these themes I am finding only newer songs.  So the series idea is dropped, will just be preparing random posts for which ever song appeals.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Welcome all to this special occasion where we are now celebrating Fifteen thousand song-posts on the blog!!!  My heartiest congratulations to Atul ji, Sudhir ji and our respected senior and other team members on the blog and to all of our readers and well-wishers of this blog.

Well, my ‘love story’ (‘Prem Kahaani’, pehle ‘affair’ likhnewaala tha, phir ‘relationship’, phir thhik karke ‘love story’ likha  🙂 ) with this blog started around 2009 and it was because of Sahir Saab’s song ‘Dil Karta O Yaara Dildaara Mera Dil Karta’ (which I was looking because it was in my memory and nostalgic for me). So, thanks are very much due to Sahir Saab and I thank him for that. (I am sure he is accepting it there 🙂 )

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 11
————————————————

5th March, 2009. As many as nine song posted on that day. Of course, from 9 different films. And guess what, over the years, eight of these films have been yippeee’d already. The films are

  • ‘Shahjehaan’ from 1946,
  • ‘Munim ji’ from 1955,
  • ‘Kaala Pani’ from 1958,
  • ‘Goonj Uthi Shehna’ from 1959,
  • ‘Umar Qaid’ from 1961,
  • ‘Bin Baadal Barsaat’ and ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ from 1963,
  • and then ‘Anubhav’ from 1971,
  • and lastly ‘Raja Jaani’ from 1972.

Except for the last listed film above, all the other eight films that appeared on that day have all their songs posted here. And so the only option left to present a 10 year challenge post is a song from ‘Raja Jaani’ from 1972.

Mohammed Rafi – Duets – ‘अ’  से  ‘ह’ तक  (From ‘अ’ to ‘ह’) – 34

‘ह’ – हमने भी प्यार किया, नज़रों को चार किया ॰ ॰ ॰

॰ ॰ ॰दिल का सूना साज़ तराना ढूंढेगा
तीर ए निगाह ए नाज़ निशाना ढूंढेगा॰ ॰ ॰

It is your words that tell of this predicament. Seasons come and go, as they have, year on year on year. . .  but the one who this heart wants to listen to again, has not returned after going away. . .

With today’s song, we come to the end of this series of duets of Rafi Sb. This series got initiated on Rafi Sb’s birth anniversary (24th Dec) in 2017.  Having gone through 33 episodes, we come to the closure with the Hindi alphabet letter ‘ह’. On the way, over the past almost 15 months, we have touched upon many a wonderful duet songs that simply perpetuate the legend of this divine voice. A blessing that we shared the same time and the planet with him for a certain period of time. The association, and its lasting awareness, has been such a lovely enchanting experience, that has left in the mind two opposing emotions – happiness and regret.  Happiness that we have a wonderful legacy treasure bequeathed to us by this voice. And regret that there could have been more, but alas not destined to be. God works in his own mysterious ways, and we are but mortals subject to his method and his directions.

Today’s song is from a saint film, ‘Sant Sakhu’ (1941).

Out of the many saints that came from Maharashtra, like Tukaram, Ramdas, Gyaneshwar etc, Sakhu was probably the only female saint on whom a bilingual film – Hindi and Marathi – was made. Unlike other saints, Sakhu possibly was not a historical figure because no mention about her is found anywhere in any document. Nevertheless, she was extremely popular amongst the rural folks of not only Maharashtra but also was a popular name in Karnataka, Andhra, Tamilnadu and Orissa. In the pre independence era, Sakhu or Sakhubai was quite a common name in these areas. I remember that we had a maid servant named Sakhubai in our Hyderabad home. She was a Telugu woman, did not know Marathi, but knew who Sakhu was !

दिल तोड़ने वाले, तुझे दिल ढूंढ रहा है

Now this song today has a very interesting peculiarity, that was brought to our group’s notice by Bakshish Singh ji. I will come that shortly.
