A long time ago there was a song “Bachpan ke din bhula na dena” (Deedar 1951). Then there was “Bachpan ke din bhi kya din thhey” (Sujata 1959). Well we generally remember everything that happens in our life (good bad or ugly). But the good things of life we definitely do not forget and say “These are a few of my favourite things” (The Sound of Music – I only know the 1965 movie). Now all these movies mentioned above were before my time but the songs I have referred to from them are true to every one I suppose.

One of the advantages of advancing years, I feel, is that you tend to get a perspective. You are able to relate events and situations not just in THAT moment in time but also relative to events/situations in the past.

I have heard this song after some 20 years or so today. A regular song on Vividh Bharati. They played both Rafi Sahab and Chandrani Mukherjee’s versions frequently. Like many of those Rafi and Lata solo version songs, this one too is in memory, with one line following the other in the mind. So typing the lyrics is fast work. I thought the female version must be Lata’s. But it turns out that the female singer is Chandrani Mukherjee, who is gamely trying to match Rafi sahab pitch for pitch. On radio she sounded a lot better than on the ear phones on which I heard it now. The ear phones have no heart and no mercy for even the greatest of singers, so none are spared.

A few weeks ago I got a request from Avinash Scrapwalaji to do a write-up for a certain song. He sent me, by e-mail, the concerned lyrics and the videos (audio only) but, for some reason, wanted me to do the write-up.

One day, I was searching for something in the Hindi Film Geet Kosh (HFGK) by Harmandir Hamraz ji. While skipping through pages, I noticed a very peculiar thing. I sat up and started from the beginning all over again. I began from films of 1947 upto 1980 and confirmed what I had noticed.

Hi all
After long I found time to put my thoughts down.
So I was thinking of a few movies which used the same story idea like for example ” Khatta Meetha” (1978) and “Hamare tumhare” (1979). Both were inspired by the 1968 Lucille Ball -Henry Fonda movie “Yours Mine And Ours”. Then in the year 2002 we had a similar situation where Rajkumar Santoshi decided to make “The Legend Of Bhagat Singh” and Dharamendra made “23rd March 1933”. And we all know the source of inspiration for these movies. And this list will include other movies too- that is same story idea and releasing around the same time. (My Peevesie reminds me that we had 2 other movies that year with the Bhagat Singh story.)
