Genius of Jaidev – 48
———————————
After full one month, I submit one more jewel from genius Jaidev. Whatever of Jaidev-ji’s songs I had in my khajana upto the year 1979 have now been covered. Not being a true researcher (though I worked in a research institute for forty years) for digging out songs from past decades, which are rare and not easily available, there may be some which I will present if they surface, someday, but I now enter the year 1980.

Mohammed Rafi : The Incomparable (II) – Song No. 03
——————————————————————————–
Sometimes when I am contemplating a post and thinking about how to start and what to write in a song post, there are those long forgotten thoughts and sayings or some impressions formed in earlier decades that come to mind. Today, though was very hectic for me, since morning I was on the move, and the heat in Mumbai was not helping. Some how all these factors culminated in me getting a headache by lunch time, which kept worsening as the day wore on. But in the office I had certain urgent things to see to, plus to meet certain people. Changes and advancements in one’s career, though one actively seeks and strives to achieve, also bring about the need of all sorts of adjustments and getting acquainted with new responsibilities. It was one of those days, where the transition was for me to absorb and to look ahead with positivism. But for the headache. Eventually I did kill it with paracetamol. So tomorrow is going to be a new day, promising and bright, God willing.

badi shai hai agar, uski pashemaani mujhe de do
Yesterday I visited the page again on the song ‘Tum Apna Ranj o Gham, Apni Pareshaani Mujhe De Do‘. I know the words are ‘badi shai hai agar‘, on which there is the long thread of comments. ‘Shai’, in common urdu is a thing or an object. ‘badi shai hai ‘ literally means , its a big thing or a big deal. As it is said in English that ‘its a big deal for me’ or means a lot to me.

Today (6 october 2015) is the 69th birth anniversary of Vinod Khanna (DOB 6 october 1946). The dashing actor of 1970s was the only real competitor of Amitabh Bachchan for the top slot in 1970s. Just when it looked like Vinod Khanna was going to launch a serios bid for the top slot, he got disillusioned with life and turned spiritual, only to get disillusioned with his spiritualism again and he came back to acting again. It was too late for him by that time of course.

“Mujhko mere baad zamaana dhoondhegaa”.
“Caravaan guzar gaya gubaar dekhte rahe”.
These were words that proved to be prophetic. In the monsoon of 1980 we had to bid good bye to The Mohd. Rafi.
It has been 35 years since Mohammad Rafi left this world. Unbelievable. Our statistics page says that there are around 4845 songs sung by him in Hindi films. (Wikipedia puts a figure of around 5000). And we are past 2400 (as per the latest updation). So we still have around 2400 songs to go. That means fodder for our blog for another few years I suppose. And all the fans of Rafisaab in our Atuldom can get to work to reach out to all his songs. It is actually not that difficult a job.

As has been mentioned in the earlier posts of the day, today (19 july 2015) is the seventh birth anniversary of this blog. One single article was posted on the first day of the blog in 2008. The blog remained one song a day blog for the first forty days and then we began to post several articles every day. Today, seven year later, the blog has well over elevent thousand songs. If one takes an average, it turns out to be an average of 4.5 songs per day. Come to think of it, maintaining this daily strike rate for seven years is quite an achievement.
