‘Sutradhar’ (1987) was an off-beat film which was directed by Chandrakant Joshi. The main cast of the film included Smita Patil and Nana Patekar in the lead roles, supported by Girish Karnad, Gajanan Jagirdar, Nilu Phule, Ashalata Wabgaonkar, Madhu Kambikar, Kamalakar Sarang, Shrikant Moghe, Irshad Hashmi, Master Hrishikesh Joshi etc. Sudheer Moghe wrote lyrics and composed the songs for the film. The film was certified by Censor Board on 31/01/1986 and may have been released a year later as the film’s credit title starts with the film being dedicated to the late Smita Patil who passed away on 13/12/1986. As far as I know, this was the only film in which Smita Patil and Nana Patekar acted together in the lead roles.

I was not aware of a film titled ‘Parinati’ (1986) which is pronounced in Hindi as परिणति (Inevitable). In fact, when I came across the title of the film on the internet a few days back, I was subconsciously reading it as ‘Parineeta’. The film was available for viewing on one of the video sharing platforms. I watched the film last week and found it to be gripping and heart wrenching.

27th June – a favorite music director, singer and one-time actor would have turned 84. His name at birth was Rahul and his parents were Meera & Sachin Dev Burman. Yes, we are thinking of the music influencer who was active from the 1960s to the 1990s – Rahul Dev Burman who was also fondly addressed as Pancham.

Hullo Atuldom
“Logon Ki Zubaan Par Apna Naam Hai Pehla” – this post of mine spoke of how I made it to the Gangout of like-minded HFM lovers who also go by the name ‘Atulites’ of ‘Atuldom’. How Sudhir ji set the ball rolling in the beginning of May and after numerous back-n-forth messages (at that time I was not a party to the discussions) June 2nd was fixed as the date for the Gangout. I was happy that I could attend the Gangout & be a part of the enthusiastic group that is highly knowledgeable about all things related to music – not necessarily only Hindi Films, especially finding new information & saving it up for posterity.

Today 24th May is the sixty-eighth birthday of music director-lyricist Rajesh Roshan(born on 24.05.1955). He is one of my favorite all time composer.
I had earlier written about him in a couple of my earlier posts on the blog. So I am not going to repeat all that here again. One thing I definitely write again is that Rajesh Roshan’s songs are part of the ‘big nostalgia’ of my growing years and may be many people like me are fond of him and
his compositions .

Ah.. Raj Kapoor – the Showman. Sometimes also referred to as the Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema. A lifetime affair with the camera – very prominently handled both ends, sometimes in front of it, and then also behind it. Starting with childhood appearances accompanying his illustrious father to studios. And on to be a performer himself. And very soon, a producer – to quench his thirst, rather his search, for the ultimate story of love.
Raj Kapoor – the eternal seeker, the eternal explorer – in quest for the meaning of love equation between a man and a woman. All his life he produced films. The subjects, the scenarios varied, but against all the scenarios the unwavering theme, the unchanging premise of emotions flowing from one heart to another.

This is the song, part of which is shot near to the Thajiwas glacier, near Sonamarg, Kashmir. This is the route going to Laddakh, travelling east of Srinagar. Further on this road falls Kargil area, about which many people have told me is much too beautiful to miss. Laddakh is a sight to behold too. I have missed both Laddakh and Kargil, but hope to visit in future, in-sha-Allah.
