Missing Films of 1960s – 100

Ah, finally, we get to a new type of century today. This series of bringing on board the missing films of 1960s becomes the series that has clocked 100 posts – a first one for our blog. This series got initiated three and half years ago on 30th September, 2015, and we arrive at the century station for it, at the rate of about 2 to 3 songs per month on average. The pace could have been faster, yes, but well, we have what we have. 🙂

Blog ten year challenge (2009-2019)- Song number 20
——————————————————–

Today (21 march 2019) is the festival of Holi. Indian festivals are based on Indian festivals and so they fall on different days in different years vis a vis Gregorian Calender). For instance, ten years ago in 2009, Holi festival had taken place on 11 march.

It is not possible to have Ten year challenge for Holi festival songs, because first, the festival falls on different days in different years of Gregorian calender (as discussed above). Secondly, one movie normally has only one Holi song. I have yet to come across a movie that has two separate Holi songs.

I began “Blog Ten year challenge (2009-2019)” early this year. As many as ten songs are covered in this series so far. Three other regulars (viz M/s Avinash Scrapwala, Sadanand Kamath and Sudhir Ji) have also chipped in with their articles in this series. In this series, we cover a song from a movie whose song (some other song obviously) was covered in the blog ten years ago on the same day.

There were days when no movies were eligible for “Blog Ten year challenge (2009-2019)” because all the songs covered on that day ten years ago had been YIPPEED by now.

This is my 700th article on this Blog. At this moment, of course, I am very happy. I can not forget the people who helped me reach here. The first is our ATUL ji, who has always been very supportive, helpful and considerate. I have been associated with this Blog for more than 8 years now, but believe it or not, I have yet to meet him ! We have not even talked on Phone anytime. His work is so systematic and perfect that this has never been a hindrance. I do hope to meet him in one of his visits to Mumbai.

Those who have followed cricket for as long as I have, old time cricket followers may recall that test cricket centuries used to be quite rare. One test Indian batsman managed to score one test century in one test series then it waas considered a major cricketing achievement. One Indian cricketer scoring more than one test century in a test series was a rarity. It was quite a rarity indeed when Sunil Gavaskar scored as many as four test centuries in one test series, and that too his debut series.

We in this blog often reach milestones that I describe as “artificial” milestones. These are “artificial” in the sense that we can only be aware of them if we keep track of them. Earlier we were not aware of them.

For instance, the blog has crossed 3700 days of existence. We first became aware of this kind of milestone only on the occasion of the blog reaching 3400 days.

Or

Or

Or maybe

Or maybe even

And but why not

If I start listing favorites, then it will take a long time to get to the matter of the subject. Ah yes, the songs listed above clearly point to the artist this article is about. The songs listed are iconic as well as popular hits. When she recorded “Kabhi Tanhaai’on Mein. . .”, and her father listened to it for the first time, his prophetic reaction was that this song is going to remain in popular memory for generations. And these words are so true for so many of her other songs, if the above sampler is anything to go by. Going beyond the barriers of time and space, her songs continue to enchant and touch listeners and lovers of this music, across the world.
