Some years back, I recall having seen for the first time on the internet the photo features of Hindi film stars such as Madhubala, Nalini Jaywant and Begum Para in ‘Life’ magazine. These photographs were taken by the magazine’s well known photographer, James Burke in 1951 who was posted in India.  From the standard of 1951, these photographs would have ranked as bold. But one more actress also featured in that magazine – the featured photos were bolder than those of the stars I mentioned earlier. Subsequently, I had also seen her images appearing in ‘Filmindia’ magazines of 1948 and 1949. The actress in the photoshoot of 1951 was Mohana Cabral.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 69
———————————————————————————–

Ten years ago, the blog was covering six songs every day and seven songs every fourth day. So I was a bit surprised to note that “only” five songs were covered on 3 September 2010. But there awsa very good reasohn for that, which will become clear during our discussion here.

Here is the list of the five songs that were covered on 3n september 2010:-

Blog post no Song Movie-Year remarks
2896 Ab to aa jaao balam Poonam 1952 YIPPEED
2897 Kaare badraa tu na jaa na jaa Shikast 1953 YIPPEED
2898 Ye jawaani ye haseen raat Khuda khair kare Khoobsoorat Dhokha 1959 4 Songs discussed out of 7
2899 Saamne ye kaun aayaa dil mein huyi halchal Jawaani Deewaani 1972 YIPPEED
2900 Kyaa huaa teraa waadaa wo qasam wo iraadaa Hum Kisise Kam Nahin 1977 Blog century post. 7 songs discussed (out of 9)

We can see from the above that three out of five movies that were taken up on 3 september 2010 have got YIPPEED in the bblog by now. So that leaves us with just two movies that are eligible for “Blog Ten Year CHallenge” today (3 September 2020).

His movies had titles mostly starting with an “A”, for example “Aap Ki Kasam”, Aakraman”, “Aaye Din Bahaar Ke”, “Aaya Saawan Jhoom Ke” etc. He was the presenter of two Rajesh Khanna starrers “Raja Rani” & “Aan Milo Sajna” both produced by Jagdish Kumar and director of the first-ever movie that his son-in-law Rakesh Roshan produced “Bhagwan Dada”. Today’s song is from the film Sarkar-1951. If this was the title from the times after year 2000, one would find this movie made on some Political subject. But the year was 1951, just 4 years after Independence.

As I was exposed now to a bigger, wider and different world, my interests rested in many other subjects and after a few years, I totally started avoiding such stories.

23rd August was the birthday of the beautiful Saira Banu. She was born to yesteryear actress Naseem Banu and producer Mian Ehsan-Ul-Haq in 1944.

She made her debut opposite Shammi Kapoor in 1961 as the OH! so gorgeous Kashmiri ‘Kali’ with her introduction song being “Kaashmir ki kali hoon main mujhse na rootho babuji”. In all the years, since then she has remained gorgeous and aged gracefully. In between then and now, she was an active star in the Hindi film firmament till about 1976 when Prakash Mehra directed “Hera Pheri” released. She appeared in a cameo with her husband Dilip Kumar in Yash Johar produced and Ramesh Talwar directed “Duniya” (1984) as parents of Rishi Kapoor.
