“Baghdad” (1961) was a Southern Movies production. It was directed by T R Sundaram. The movie had M. G. Ramchandran, Vyjyantimala, Gopal Krishna, T. S. Balliah, Nambiar, Sandhya, Helen etc in it. That makes it one of the rare movies where M G Ramchandran was seen in a Hindi movie. I wonder if it was a dubbed movie. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie.

The popularity of characters such as Tarzan shows that there is a child within all human beings, no matter how much they grow up physically. I am told by my daughter (don’t know how she keeps track of all this in between her tight schedule of finishing her projects etc) that today (15 april 2013) is Hasrat Jaipuri’s birthday. I am sure every one knows a lot about Hasrat Saab’s history, where he was born (Jaipur), his birth name (Iqbal Hussain). How he fell in love with a Hindu girl in his youth – the song “Yeh Mera Prem Patra Padhkar” was written for her (so says Wikipedia) which was later used in “Sangam” by Raj Kapoor.

I don’t remember if I have seen the 1960 movie Love in Simla before. But I have heard many of its songs. And one or two songs have remained with me playing in the background of my head. I had marked this movie in the youtube library some time ago and began seeing it recently. The best part about seeing movies on youtube is they come in segments of 12 minutes. And as I was enjoying myself with the CINDERALLA kind of story this particular song came by and I thought “ hey I know this song” then the next step “is it on Atul?” and on searching I find Atuldom has eight songs from this movie but this one is missing.

While Padosan (1968) is much more famous for its funny songs and “mere saamnewali khidki mein”, it has more to it than that. This Kishore Kumar solo for example often gets forgotten when people talk of the songs from this film.
