Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 5
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Coming into the 5th episode of the repeat song series. Here is an example of a straight and simple reuse, as is. The film is ‘Raja Kaka’ from 1973. And the famous drunkard song by Mukesh – from the 1960 film ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’, has been re-used in this film, without any changes or re-recording. As we listen to this picturization, it is clearly the original song that is simply being replayed in this film.

Today’s song is from film ‘Jeena Seekho’ (1946). The film was made by Prabhakar Pictures, Bombay, which belonged to Bhalji Pendharkar, the elder brother of Baburaao Pendharkar – the hero of this film. Pendharkar brothers were quite big names in Maharashtra for film making. In fact, the whole clan of Pendharkar was connected with other famous people from film line, like Master Vinayak and V.Shantaram. Let us see how.

Missing Films of 1960s – 112
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Cricket is a distraction par excellence. 🙂  I am sure most of us bandwagoneers will agree.

That we are approaching the 151st century of songs on the blog, was being exchanged between Atul ji and myself for quite some days now. But the fact that we are also approaching the completion of the 4th millennium of no. of days of existence, almost went completely un-noticed by either of us. It was like just three or four days ago, that the tubelight came on in my mind. I immediately wrote to Atul ji. And equally immediately we agreed that we are on a threshold milestone that is more significant than the 151st century of songs.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 36
——————————————————————————————

Welcome all to this ‘pehli taarikh’ of July’2019. We look back to this day ‘ten years back’ in the blog. 01st July’2009 started in the blog with the song from ‘Khota Paisa-1958’, it was followed by a song from ‘Sanjog-1961’, third song of the day was from the 1959 movie ‘Chacha Zindabad’, next song was from the movie ‘Chhailaa Babu-1967’. Fifth song of that day came from 1970 – Man Ki Aankhen. The day was finally rounded off with a song from ‘Preet Ki Dori-1971’.

Today on 1 july 2019, we are starting our day in the blog with a song from the 1971 movie ‘Preet Ki Dori’ which made its debut in the blog on ths day ten years ago.

Saga Of Sleepless Nights – 5
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

un aankhon mein neend kahaan
jin aankhon se preetam door basey. . .

It was October of 2017, a year and 8 months ago. The previous episode of this series was posted then. After that – this long gap. There have been many a sleepless nights in the intervening months. Yet, somehow I could not get back into the groove with this series. And actually, and inadvertently I should say, two songs that I was saving for this series, got posted otherwise, depleting my list of song. Anyhow, not an issue – the wealth of the Hindi film song still will reveal more songs for this category. 🙂

‘Ek Masoom’, a film from 1969, appears to be a film that likely took some time to get going, get completed and released. This film was rare and unavailable for decades, and it has been recently unearthed and then made available in public domain.

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 4
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

This song has been suggested by Peevesie’w Mom ji, for inclusion in this series. Interestingly enough, the original song from the ‘Disco Dancer’ was posted on our blog by herself only, on June 16th, last year. Last year she has posted this on the birth anniversary of the prime protagonist of this song – Mithun Chakravarty.

Today’s song is from an obscure film – ‘Jeb Katra’ aka ‘Pick Pocket’ aka ‘Girahkat’. The film may be obscure, but the song is extremely melodious and it is a pleasure to listen to such a song. I have liked it very much. The film was produced by actress-singer Brijmala’s home production Brij Prakash Productions. Looking at the cast of film and its director, it seems to be a stunt film. It was advertised as a Social Stunt film – whatever that means. To me it was like saying ‘a religious murder mystery film’ !

Yesterday (26th June) there was a discussion on the ‘Atulites Whatsapp group’ regarding songs containing the word ‘June’ in them. I thought that some of us would definitely point out this song – how can seventies’ fans miss this. So, our beloved Raja ji pointed out this song and reminding it that it was quite a popular song in those days. I must be 2/3 years old then, so I can’t say much about this 🙂 but, after listening this song now, I can say that it’s tune is quite nice and enjoyable and one can easily be humming this song after listening to it once.

I had come across this song few months back during my routine browsing, and since the starting of this month – ‘June’, I wanted to share the song during this month. I was thinking of sharing this song, but as the month progressed it was very hectic on work front for me and it slipped out of mind. But nevertheless, since yesterday’s discussion I thought we still have few days in this month of June and can enjoy this song.

Mohammed Rafi : The Incomparable (II) – Song No. 12
———————————————————-

This particular ghazal, as some other Mirza Ghalib ghazals, has been sung by various singers.  Some of the famous renditions by KL Sehgal Sb, Suraiyya and also by Jaddanbai are already posted in the blog:

https://atulsongaday.me/2010/04/17/nukta-cheen-hai-gham-e-dil/        Jaddanbai (Non-Film song, 1930)

Another rendition of the golden era is yet to find its way into the blog, so here is the Rafi Sahab rendition.  This is a very small simple ghazal with only the four sha’irs being rendered.
