‘ट’ – टूटे तो टूटे कोई दिल का सहारा ॰ ॰ ॰

हम आस किए जाते, तुम पास नहीं आते
जाना था चले जाते, मिलने को चले आते
Everyone has to depart, someday. But this beseeching yoke of memories is now becoming an encumbering burden, that would probably be lightened only when I myself will depart.

Presenting the next episode in this series. With close to half of Rafi Sb’s songs already posted on the blog, it is getting to be not an easy job to find songs to fit the requirements of the series. The alphabet letter for today is ‘ट’. When we scan the list of songs, we find a long list of songs starting with ‘t’, but then on closer review, one finds that majority of these ‘t’ songs are actually for the syllable ‘त’ – as in ‘तुम’, ‘तुम्हारे’, ‘तेरा’ etc. There are very few songs that will start with the sound of ‘ट’.

In the sphere of Parsi Theatres, there were many artists who had contributed in the growth of Indian theatres. But there were few personalities and artists associated with Parsi Theatres whose contributions led to its strong foundation. Some theatre scholars whose specialisation is in South Asian theatres, regard Agha Hashr Kashmiri (Writer-Director), Pandit Narayan Prasad ‘Betab’ (Writer-Director), Radheshyam Katha Vachak (Writer-Director), Master Fida Hussain (Actor-Singer) and Jaishankar Bhojak, popularly known as Jaishankar Sundari (Actor-Singer) as the pioneers in developing the Parsi Theatres.

Hullo to all in Atuldom
Recently I read an interview of one of my favorite lyricist in the Bangalore Times which was conducted on the sidelines of Bangalore Poetry festival 2017. Every time I read or hear him I start admiring him all the more. Last year on the occasion of his birthday I heard him on Gaana.com (an app supporting continuous song playback) and I was floored by his thought process. There he had said “I don’t like to say things like ‘Hamaare zamaane mein ye hua karta tha. . .’. One shouldn’t lament about the fact that the current generation isn’t repeating what they did. At least they aren’t repeating your mistakes in the process.” He further went on to say “what do people mean hamaara zamaana, as long as you are living it is your ZAMAANA”. That is a nice way to look at life.

Greetings to all friends and readers, as India celebrates another anniversary of its freedom from foreign domination.
A lot can be and has been said and debated about this theme, in the press, in the media, in personal conversations. . . there is never a perfect closure to these discussions. Yes, the honor of the nation is an emotion that should and almost always does, transcend all other emotions. I say almost, because, at least in my evaluation of an individual’s relationships with the surroundings and the society, the matters of culture and humanism would at times weigh in more than national pride. In my mind, the definitions of national boundaries are quite artificial. They are more often than not, drawn by vested and many a times malicious intentions. Humanism, on the other hand, has no boundaries, period, none whatsoever across the planet. And culture – well it is defined more by environmental forces and the flow of historical compulsions. Culture grows. It develops and spreads driven by natural boundaries, and human acceptance of that which correctly conforms to the natural affinities and tendencies.

The 15th of August, is a special date in the calendar for India.
Every year, there are events across the country celebrating the day. There is flag-hoisting in schools, offices and public places. There are patriotic songs played on radio. There’s a lot more to mark the date and occasion.
All of this is understandable. After all, it was on the 15th of August that many years ago, India became an independent nation, free from British rule.
