Hullo Atuldom

19th July- our blog turns an year older. I have been writing for the occasion for a few years now. (Think the habit set-in in 2015 or 2016). But I seem to have missed writing a post in 2021. Here is my post from 2020. Whatever I have said in that post still holds true for me.

I am still thankful that I discovered the blog and thankful that Atulji gave us this platform where novices like me have a place to post our thoughts. Thankful that Atulsongaday gave me a new set of HFM loving friends who have a wealth of information which has enriched us. There are some among the regulars who I have met a few times and some whom I have never met – Atulji included. Let us hope we have a grand party where all Atulites and Satulites congregate. As Rajaji has said in the comments to my post (on 19th July 2020), and I quote “We all might have got onto this journey at different stations but it has been a wonderful journey, with lots of memories and shared experiences.”

Last year, in July, I discovered that “Ghar Ka Chiraag” as a title has been used twice in Bollywood. I have written briefly about this in this post. Then I went on to speak about the “Ghar Ka Chiraag” of the ’80s.

13th July is the birthdate of writer, producer, director Prakash Mehra. He would have been 83. He began his career in the late 1950s as assistant director and production controller etc. before turning director with “Haseena Maan Jayegi” in 1968 which had Babita and Shashi Kapoor in the lead. More films followed many of which were successful and super-successful, as the film industry would say “Silver Jubilees”.

Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia was born on 1st July 1938 to a father who wanted the son to be a wrestler. The obedient son did go to the Akhada and trained with his father along with learning music and practising at a friend’s home.

Pt. Hariji has said once, and I quote, “he was not very good at wrestling but the training had helped him build up strength and stamina which has helped him play the bansuri (flute) to this day.”

‘Cape Fear’ (1962) was a noir psychological thriller that had Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum and Polly Bergen in the cast and was directed by J Lee Thompson. Introducing “Tridev” (1989) on the blog with a song that was lost in the shadow of a more popular song of this movie. Both the songs have similar sounds at the beginning but the tune, the setting, words all are different. In fact “Tridev” had three songs that started with “oye oye”. Then the popular song went on as “Tirchhi topiwaale” and it had a version which was slower in tempo and can be labelled ‘sad version’. The song with this post went on as “gajar ne kiya hai ishaara” which was the song just before the climax. It had the three heroines doing a “jab tak hai jaan, jaane jahaan” kind of dance.

3rd Sunday of June is celebrated as Father’s Day and yesterday (19th June) was Father’s Day this year. The day is meant to honor Fatherhood and Paternal Bonds as well as the influence of fathers in society. In the USA, father’s day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June, for the first time, in 1910. The day is held across the world on various dates and different regions have their own traditions of honoring Fatherhood.

“Maine Pyaar Kiya” (MPK 1989) was from the Rajshri Productions stable. It was directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya, story by S.M.Ahale, and screenplay and dialogues were by Sooraj Barjatya. Asad Bhopali and Dev Kohli were the lyricists. Vijay Patil (a.k.a Raamlaxman) was the music director. Bhagyashree made her debut in this movie and it was Salman Khan’s first as a hero (he was present in “Biwi Ho To Aisi” in a supporting role before this). Aloknath, Rajeev Verma, Mohnish Behl, Reema Lagoo, Ajeet Vachani, Harish Patel, Huma Khan, Dilip Joshi, and Laxmikant Berde formed the supporting cast. There was a ‘homing pigeon’ too in the cast.

‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ (RHTDM – 2001) was produced by Vashu Bhagnani and directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon. It was either a remake or made along side Gautam Vasudev Menon’s Tamil ‘Minnale’. ‘Minnale’ released in February and RHTDM released in October 2001. Both the versions had R Madhavan play the lead, music was by Harris Jayaraj (I think both the movies were the composers’ debut in the respective languages).

A song from a new movie (by the standards of this blog) for the listening pleasure of followers of this blog.

‘Hungama (The Ruckus)’ is a 2003 release – nearly 20 years old already –  that was produced by Venus records and tapes and directed by Priyadarshan. One of the many that Priyan (as his friends in the South address him as) remade from Malayalam hits. It was a remake of Priyans’ Malayalam ‘Poochakkoru Mookkuthi’ (meaning A Nose-ring for the Cat) which was itself a remake of the Telugu movie ‘Gopala Rao Gari Ammayi’ which had elements borrowed from the plot of Charles Dickens ‘The Strange Gentleman’.
