Hullo to all atulwaale

I am desperately trying to stop myself from writing anything in praise of Sunil Dutt (6 june 1929- 25 may 2005). I am trying to avoid writing anything that is already written here on the blog or anywhere else in the cyber world.

May-June is the time when Indians or more importantly students and their parents are at their jitteriest. These are the months that the Indian education system has chosen to declare results of exams held in the months of February-March. Exams that puts the knowledge gained by students through the year to test. The students are required to revise everything learnt; in a year; in about a month of study leave (we as students had study leave of a month, I would love to know of the current scenario) and pour out everything in about 2½ to 3 hours; on to an answer sheet and then pray that what they have answered fetches them marks that are enough to get them further in life.

Here is a song from Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. It is written by Anjaan and Kalyanji Anandji are the music directors. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor and Lata Mangeshkar.

This movie had great songs. All Eight of them. But a lousy story line (I can see a whole lot of Atulites chuckling right Rajaji?)

Today (10 may 2017) is the third anniversary of passing away of character actor Sudhir (10 May, 2014).

Now the last I had seen him in a movie was in ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ in 2007 in a blink and miss role. Then we had also seen him in movies like ‘Dulhe Raja’ (1998) in a slightly less brief role with some comic timing thrown in. Prior to this I can remember him in Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Baadshah’ (1999) where also he had some comedy in the situation of his character. In the interim he was also seen in a few television serials. But of course if someone asked me who Sudhir was I can say that he was the smart guy (smarter than Dev Anand if I am allowed to say) in ‘Gambler’ (1971) who sits besides the heroine, Zahida, in the song “Dil Aaj Shaayar Hai Gham Aaj Naghma Hai“. But I had no material at hand to write about Sudhir. For example, I didn’t know where he was from etc. He played characters that were always behind the scenes in many of his movies like ‘Shareef Badmash’ (1973) etc. I checked online and found that his real name was Bhagwandas Mulchand Luthria. I also learnt that he is uncle to Milan Luthria who has made a few movies in recent times. Then on further googling I also saw that he had produced a movie or two (according to IMDB.com). It seems he was also an assistant director.  But nothing more that would stand out so I am leaving it to our experts in Atuldom to fill about this character artiste.

[Ed Note: Please see the post for the song “Na Maano To Koi Shikaayat Nahin” from film ‘Ustad 420’ (1969), as well as the comments therein. The comments plus the post provide a fairly detailed bio sketch of the character actor Sudhir.]

Atul ji’s 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 6
——————————————————————–

Hullo to all in Atuldom

Mubaarak Ho. . .

At the very outset, I must congratulate our Leader or Sutradhar as I like to call him or Ranchi Wala Gaanewala as Sudhir ji once called him (he is no longer in Ranchi but the name stays) on reaching a very important milestone- 10000 songs, imagine it is TEN THOUSAND posts by a single person. For this we should all give a collective YYIIPPEEEE!!!! Mubarak Ho! Mubarak Ho!

This must be a record of sorts where a blog has survived this looong and its karta-dharta has sooo many posts to his credit. And to think that this blog doesn’t make any comments or remarks on any person, place, caste, religion etc. the closest we come to religion is when a bhajan or qawwali is posted. Three cheers to that!

Hullo to all in Atuldom

Wishing that everyone in this Kingdom of Atulsongaday has the power to withstand the early summer that we are experiencing this year, the sun seems to be unusually hot.

Last song! Last song! Last Song!

No this is the first song that runs with the movie’s title cards. It is a stage show that introduces the central character Monty played by Chintu alias Rishi Kapoor. He is a singer cum dancer cum guitarist with a large fan following. He has many successful shows to his credit but is forbidden from doing private shows.

A very Happy Holi to 9th holi today (13 march 2017) on this blog. And every holi we have Atul posting songs for the occasion. We have approximately 50 songs to celebrate holi. So does that mean we are out of songs? No, not at all! How can that happen? As long as we have Hindi Movies and as long as they have songs in them we can be sure of at least one holi song a year if not more. Oh, I seem to be echoing Sudhirji’s thoughts from his 2015’s holi post. But that is the truth of the matter. Holi will never go out of fashion in Bollywood. The only thing that might change is that people will request others to have dry holi this year as many parts of the country are facing drought conditions. And still others will opt for using organic colours that are less harmful to the skin etc. But what about the general public of the country who cannot afford the expensive organic stuff they will stick to the traditional gulal in various hues.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

A very Happy Holi (today on date 13 march 2017) to all who visit this blog.

Let there be lot of colour all around you; but not on your clothes??; makes washing difficult ??! And if there is a water shortage in your region please play dry holi- with only colours. Ideally the colours should be organic; they do less harm to the skin and eyes -this is what I have read I haven’t used them ever. I don’t even remember when and where was my last holi; possibly when I had just moved to Dahisar in Mumbai back in 2000. But I still love to see others forget themselves in this game of colours. And also, I love to think of all the famous delicacies that are made at Holi. I have heard of Ghujiyas and Kaanji Vadas, Thandaai and Bhaang. Another major attraction to Holi (for me) these days are the various songs that play on the Radio and TV channels. Enough to drive one down memory lane.

Hullo to all Atulwaasis

We had two opportunities to meet fellow Atulwaasis last year- one when guruji visited Bangalore and next when Avinashji visited. Both have given me lasting memories. I also liked Avinashji’s idea of getting Atul’s Banjaarey to sign an autograph with their thoughts to make up a Collage of Autographs. It was to show something about our interests or as Avinashji has said in his write up on the Gangout—Man Ki Baat. It has showed that most were in a philosophical mood and had unknowingly or unintentionally contributed to the thought (my own thinking too) “Zindagi kaisi hai paheli/ Kal kya hoga kisiko pata”- the very basis of a Banjaara’s (Nomad’s) life. One of the songs which I keep humming a lot also points to the same thought of Zindagi being a Paheli—and that song is Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu, Peeche Bhi Jaane Na Tu, Jo Bhi Hain Bas Yehi Ek Pal Hai.
