10th October is the date when Rekha (born Bhanurekha) turns a year older.
Rekha, who made a debut in films as a teenage, first in telugu followed by Kannada & Hindi, has been seen in close to 180 films. She has also acted in a Bhojpuri film. She had given her voice to characters played by Smita Patil, that were at the dubbing stage & left incomplete due to Smita’s death. She has also tried her hand at singing, she didn’t sound bad.

“Mohabbat Zindagi Hai” (1966) was produced by K. C. Gulati and directed by Jagdish Nirula for Roop Chaaya, Bombay. The movie had Dharmendra, Rajshree, Mehmood, Nazir Hussain, Chaand Usmani, Deven Verma, Badri Prasad, Sunder, Man Mohan, Madhavi, Kundan, Kesho(Keshav Rana), Parasram, Kirti aka Kirti Kumar, Raj Dewan, Dinanath, Johnny Whiskey, etc. O.P. Nayyar was the music director for songs written by S.H. Bihari. Mahendra Kapoor, Mohd. Yash Raj Chopra (Yash Chopra) – born on 27th September 1932- was a producer/ director of Hindi films. He was the founding chairman of the film production and distribution company Yash Raj Films. He was the recipient of several awards, including 6 National Film Awards and 8 Filmfare Awards. He is considered among the best Hindi filmmakers, particularly known and admired for his romantic films with strong female leads. For his contributions to films, the Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.

“Jaaneman” (1976) was a film produced by Navketan Films -meaning Dev Anand was the producer with his brother Chetan Anand as director. The songs were composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal & written by Anand Bakshi. The playback singers used for the songs were Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Anand Kumar C, Vinod Sharma, Hemlata, Mukesh & Mohd Rafi.

“Andhaa Kanoon” (1983) was a movie that was produced by A. Purnachandra Rao & directed by T. Rama Rao. Its music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyricist was Anand Bakshi. Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, S.P. Balasubramaniam & Baby Rajeshwari were the playback singer used for the eight songs of the film of which one song Rote rote hansna seekho hanste hanste ronaa was a multi-part song; of which Kishore Kumar had a happy & sad version as also Baby Rajeshwari who got to sing a few lines of the song.

Just discovered that Kumar Sanu is turning 67 (DoB 23 September 1958).
He has been around singing songs in Indian films since 1983. He first figured in a Bangladeshi film in 1986 whereas his first major Bollywood song was in “Hero Hiralal” (1988). He was born as Kedarnath Bhattacharya to Pasupati Bhattacharya who was a vocalist/ composer whose ancestral home was near Dhaka. The family moved to Calcutta (now Kolkata) in search of livelihood, where Kedarnath was born.

“Ek Chadar Maili Si” is a classic Urdu novella written by Rajinder Singh Bedi. It was a story of a tradition in Punjab, as part of which, the younger brother weds his elder brother’s widow upon the latter’s death. This tradition is called ‘chadar daalna’. Compelled by custom and physical force, the male protagonist of ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’ weds his sister-in-law.
