Today (9 july 2017) is the birth anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar (9 july 1938-6 november 1985), one of the true legendary actors of Hindi cinema.
Today, he would have been 79 – but sadly, he didn’t even get to live to the age of 50. He was just 47 when a heart attack took him away from this world, and from millions of his fans. Just like Guru Dutt (also coincidentally born on the 9th of July and who died way too early), Sanjeev Kumar’s death left a void in Hindi cinema.

The movie had Ashok Kumar and Usha Kiran in lead roles supported by Anoop Kumar, Daisy Irani, Amarnath, Jeevan, Protima Devi, Shammi, Mirza Musharraf, Leela Misra, Murad, Dhoomal, Iftekhar, Salvi, Bhupendra Kumar, Alka, Gopal etc.
“Jeewan Saathi”(1949) was directed by M D Baig for Khatri Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Ajit, Sulochana Chatterji, Mumtaz Ali, Jeewan, Badri Prasad, S Nazir etc in it.

Today (30 june 2017) is the birth anniversary of Kalyanji (30 june 1928-24 august 2000 ) of the well-known Kalyanji-Anandji music composer duo. Or K-A, in short. Under this series today we have this beautiful ‘Sufi Qawwali’ composed by C.Arjun and which is written by none other than Sahir Ludhianvi for the movie ‘Nawaab Sahib-1978’. I have vague memories of watching this movie in late seventies or early eighties, but I do not remember much about this movie or its story line. The only memory of this movie that I had carried over in my growing years and thereafter was this song ‘Hum Mein Hai Kya Ke Hamen Koi Haseena Chaahe’ sung by Mohd Rafi.

“Arab Ka Sitaara”(1946) was directed by Nanubhai Vakil for Roshan Pictures, Bombay. This obscure movie, describe as a costume drama in HFGK, had Amirbai Karnataki, Prakash, Cuckoo, Rafi, Ansari, P D Lal, Malka, Hemlata, Agha Shapur etc in it.
The movie had ten songs in it. Details about the singers of these songs are not known for any of these songs.
A few songs from this movie are available and so one can guess about the singers of this song.
And guess what ! This movie has at least two songs that were sung by Rafi ! Seeing that Rafi was struggling to make his mark as a playback singer in 1946, these solo songs sung by him in this movie must be one of his earliest songs in HFM.Indeed it was just the 11th solo song in HFM for Rafi in his fledgeling career.
Today, on the occasion of Eid, here is this devotional song from “Arab Ka Sitaara”(1946). Rafi is the singer. Shewan Rizvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S Qureshy.
On looking at the cast, I find a name called Rafi. Could this be this Rafi ! It is known that he had acted in “Laila Majnu”(1945) and “Jugnu”(1947). So why he could not act in this movie ? I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie as well as on my guess about Rafi in this movie.
With this song, “Arab Ka Sitaara”(1946) makes its debut in the blog.
