Hullo to ALL Atulites
Today is 29th December 2013. The 71st birthday of an actor who went on to become a SUPERSTAR like none before him. He reigned in the hearts of the Bollywood movie buffs for a long time. He had 15 consecutive hits from 1969-71. Even after that for a few years his movies were immensely popular and ladies were so obsessed with him that there are stories as to how he used to get Fan-Mail written in blood. Yes we are speaking of Rajesh Khanna who else as I am sure everyone would have understood by now.

In keeping with the festive season and party atmosphere, here is a party song. This is a duet song of Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle, from the film ‘Andaz’ (1971). The lyricist is Hasrat Jaipuri and composers are Shankar-Jaikishan.

The picturization is a Christmas, New year, masquerade, holloween all rolled into one party. If there was a cake visible, it would have been a birthday. In the movie I think it was Christmas party. David is the host and Shammi Kapoor and Hema Malini are singing this song.

There have been various songs on Shaadi and the various rituals connected to it. For example a very good bidaai song is “Chal ri sajni ab kya soche” from “Bambai Ka Babu”. Then there are songs of mehndi; in recent times a lot of Yash Chopra movies had them (do we need to enumerate them here). There are also songs where the sister is teased by a younger sibling (Sun Sun Sun Didi from Khoobsurat) or a jiji Jija song as in “Hum Aapke hain Kaun.” Then there is the iconic song in Chaudvin Ka chand “Mera Yaar bana hai dulha” by Mohd Rafi which has stood the test of time.

Since the last two days a certain music channel (B4U Music I think) is advertising that they are going to dedicate their “Awaaz De Kahaan Hain” programme to Mohd. Rafi and that it is going to be spread over 23rd and 24th. And my brain….like time some tube lights of olden days blinked and blinked and realized that (realization after 5 years of being an Atulite) that my daughter’s birthday is close to Rafisaab’s birthday. And that she had written the lyrics for the song from “Amar Akbar Anthony” a long time ago. Also that she had wanted me to write a suitable write up for it.

Looking at the title of the song, most people are justified if they exclaim-“What ! This song was not yet covered !!”. My excuse is the same old one. All these days I was under the impression that this song was already covered long back.

Two days back on the occasion of Yusuf Khan’s (Dilip Kumar to all of us) Atul had said and I quote

“when I decided to find Dilip Kumar songs to discuss, I realised that almost all the Dilip Kumar movies have already been painted orange, viz all the songs of these movies have already been discussed in the past. There are a few Dilip Kumar movies where a few songs are not yet discussed, but these songs are picturised on actors other than Dilip Kumar.”
