I have never met Atul, he is not even my Facebook friend! But over the past few years I feel I have known him for a very long time. I know him as a very kind and gracious person who not only posted a few of my guest posts on his blog but was even very, very generous with his comments on my blog which has nothing to do with film songs. Maybe the reason for this is that we both grew up in middle class households in the same era, and that too within 130 km of each other (he in Ranchi and I in Jamshedpur, both small towns)

Genius of Jaidev
=============

The twelfth gem in the series of ‘Genius of Jaidev’ is from a 1978 film ‘Tumhare Liye, based on the tale of lost love, sacrifice and reincarnation. Produced by Raj Tilak and directed by Basu Chaterjee, it had lyrics by Naqsh Layalpuri and music by Jaidev. The star cast included Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Neelam Mehra, Indrani Mukherjee, Anita Guha, Brahm Bharadwaj, Suresh Chatwal, A K Hangal, Dinesh Hingoo, Pinchoo Kapoor, Ratnamala, Zarina Wahab, Om Shivpuri etc. In spite of the mighty cast of that time, the film flopped at the box office and the excellent music of Jaidev went mostly unnoticed except of a Lata’s song ‘Tumhe dekhati hun to lagta hai’. Two songs from the film are already covered and discussed on this Blog.

So continuing in my line of light hearted romantic songs here is one more. Now this one is from the 1978 Dharmendra- Hema Malini – Prem Chopra starrer “Azaad”. This song is in the voice of Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. It has music by RDB and the songs were written by Anand Bakshi. That means the songs from this movie were all great on the ear. What more does one expect when AB and RDB collaborate?

“Dillagi” (1978) was directed by Basu Chatterji. It was a romantic comedy which I had not liked during its time when I watched this movie. Perhaps I was too young for a movie on this topic at that time. 🙂 The movie had Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Mithu Mukherji, Deven Verma, Asrani, Preeti Ganguly, Keshto Mukherji, Shatrughan Sinha etc in it.
