This is the title song of Mukti (1977). Death and Loss play a central role in the film in different forms. Thus this song is used in bits and parts throughout the film. I have included the complete audio version and also the bits which I could find, which were used in the film. Since these bits give away the ending of the film, a SPOILER ALERT! Please don’t watch the videos of the film, if you don’t want the ending to be revealed.

In Mukti (1977), Shashi Kapoor and Vidya Sinha play a happily married couple, till he is framed for murder and thus gets capital punishment. Thinking that he is dead she relocates to Bombay, where she meets the local goon, who helps the lonely “widow” and her daughter settle down. This other man is played by Sanjeev Kumar. In this song he seems to be drinking so that he can feel brave enough to admit his love to his adored one.

Mukti (1977) stars Shashi Kapoor, Vidya Sinha, Sanjeev Kumar and Bindiya Goswami. Shashi Kapoor plays Vidya Sinha’s husband. This happy couple has a daughter, who would grow up to be Bindiya Goswami. In the happier times of this small family, the father sings a lullaby to his daughter. As usual in films, these happy times don’t last forever and the father goes missing and then it is the mother’s turn to sing the lullaby with a similar mukhdaa but different antaras. Both versions are included here.

This is the last remaining song from Anjaana (1969). It is a ‘Jeep’ song and happens right at the beginning of the film. I got a chance to see this movie on T V during a weekend. Much to my chagrin, they cut two songs from the movie. Somebody tell these T V channels that this is a 60’s movie not 80’s movie, hence the songs are not surplus and they are the main attraction. I could see the song situation in the scene’s leading up to the song, only to see the scene after the song next. My husband alerted me that they are cutting the songs, as the ‘bhai-bahen’ song Hum behnon ke liye mere bhaiyya was cut.

“Air Mail” (1960) was an obscure C grade movie by now. This movie was directed by B J Patel under the banner of People’s pictures. The movie had Ranjan, Malini, Jyoti, Rajan Kapoor, Merajkar, Maruti etc in it.
One song from this movie has been discussed in the past.
Today (6 july 2013) is the eighth death anniversary of Sardul Kwatra. On this occasion, here is a song from “Air Mail” (1960). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and chorus. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sardul Kwatra.
Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to tell about the picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
Song-Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap hone de jaani (Air Mail)(1961) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Sardul Kwatra
Chorus
Lyrics
Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani
haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani
haay haay haay
Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de
jaani ee ee ee
karti hai ye dhadkan ishaare
u u u
maange hain dil ne sahaare
u u u
das na le tujhko ye zulfen
u u u
pardesi mehman hamaare
dekh idhar
hai ye umar
dekh idhar
hai ye umar
khatre ki nishaani
haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani
haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de
jaani ee ee ee
kehte hain
sun ae hebbina
o o o o
chaahat na ho to kya jeena
o o o o
nazron ki lehren uthhi hain
o o o o
behne de dil ka safeena
o o o o
diruba sharmo haya
diruba sharmo haya
baaten hain puraani
haay haay haay
shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de jaani
shoon shadap dil deke tadap
kehti hai jawaani
haay haay haay
Shoon shadap nazron ki jhadap
hone de
jaani ee ee ee

Mukti (1977) is Bindiya Goswami‘s debut film. From the looks of it this song most probably heralds her arrival on the screen. This also seems to be a song, which shows how the once small daughter has grown up and has stepped into her youth.
