Yesterday, it was “Ye Shor Hai Gali Gali, Ke Wo Jawaan Ho Chali”, telling about a young lass stepping into the age of youth. The song today tells the same story, this time about a girl named Reshma.

The decade of the seventies brought in some significant changes in the landscape of Hindi film song. For one, it was the spectacular rise of Kishore Kumar as a playback singer.“Mere Sapnon Ki Raani” happened in 1969, and after that we see a meteoric rise in Kishore Da’s playback singing performances. The second significant aspect is the accompanying rise of the new age music spearheaded by music directors like RD Burman and Bappi Lahiri. The generations were changing, and the new generations lapped on the new age music coming from this new crop of composers. Sadly, however, the demise of melody was also acknowledged to have occurred in this decade.

As mentioned earlier, I am at present in a district in Chhattisgarh that shares the same name as the advanced nation of Korea, but unlike the land of Samsung and Hyundai, I find my internet connection crawling at a pace where it is unlikely that I can even open a page, let alone watch/download videos. Most Rakhi songs in this blog are from the golden era of HFM, viz from 1950s to 1970s, though Rakhi songs from 1930s, 40s and 80s have also been discussed in the past.
Here is a Rakhi song from the 1990s. This picturisation is intesteting. It shows a Mithun da covered from head to toes in Rakhis arrive at his residence where his three sisters are waiting for him. The sisters cannot even identify him, before the small kid accompanying Mithun da explains that Mithun Da had saved several girls from the clutches of baddies and the grateful girls had tied him with rakhis all over his body, including face. 🙂
