Today (23 october 2014) is the festival of deepaawali. This festival is supposed to bring joy and happiness in the lives of everyone. I can certainly vouch for that. My main computer that has been hijacked by my wife for the last few days was surprisingly available to me this morning. I wake up earlier than others on the pretext of letting the dog out and teaching the daughter. The dogs were wide awake as usual but my daughter (and wife) are not (as usual). That gave me the opportunity of sitting on my main computer and try and give finishing touch to the posts for the day.

Not being a speaker of Hindi, I know that I miss a great deal of nuance in both song and storyline in not understanding the lyrics to Hindi film songs. I am sure that is the case here too, but all the same the picturization of this song is so packed with information that for once I don’t really feel that deprived. His trademark lack of subtlety is one of Manmohan Desai’s greatest gifts to non-Indian fans of Hindi cinema, as is his trademark lunacy to all of mankind. An abundance of both mark this song as one of my favorites.

“Watan Ke Rakhwaale” (1987) was an A G Films production. It was produced by Feroz A Nadiadwala and directed by T Rama Rao. The movie had Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra, Moushumi Chatterjee, Lalita Pawar, Mithun Chakrborthy, Sridevi, Ashok Kumar, Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, Dan Danoa, Prem Chopra, Puneet Issar, Mac Mohan, Parikshit Sahni, Birbal, Sudhir Dalvi, Ashalata Wabgaonkar, Divya Rana, Renu Joshi, Master Chottu, Baby Guddu, Chandrashekhar, Sundar Taneja, Ali Khan, Ved Naswa, Pravin Kumar, Sageer Mukhtar etc in it.

“Parbat Ke Us Paar” (1988) was a Motit Films production. It was produced by Anand Prakash and directed by Raman Kumar. The movie had Abhinav Chatruvedi, Lubna Siddique, Bharat Kapoor, Avtar Gill, Yunus Parvez, Rama Vij, Rakesh Bedi, Deepak Tijori, Gulam Jilani, Manju Mishra etc in it and the movie had duly flopped at the box office.
