You must now be thinking – this is a peculiar but a very interesting intro to the 134th century post on the blog. So yes, before getting into the discussion on the proposed topic, congratulations are in order. Welcome all to the 13 thousand 4 hundredth post on our blog. The musical bandwagon rolls on – toiling, pleasing, emotionally invigorating – it continues to move tirelessly. Because. . . because music – must be there. The world, this nature – all are moving to a rhythm, and a melody. Music is instilled in everything every entity we know, we touch, we think of. But come to think of it, we do not often think of this world that way i.e. music in everything, everyday of our lives. We are so consumed with the process of existence and living day to day, that we forget to stop and smell the flowers (or smell the coffee, if you are in America). And the music of life gets hidden behind the other sundries. Often we forget to think about it.

Last of the Music Moguls. Not that there have not been more prolific artists and music directors after him. One can readily name a few – Anu Malik, AR Rahman, Ilayaraja. But me, personally speaking, will not put the follow on ‘champs’ in the same bracket. Something ended when he left us, twenty three years ago. Times were-a-changing even as the 1960s played itself out. And he himself was singularly instrumental in that transformation.

There was a time in my life when I thought no end about myself. Regarding bollywood movies of course. Then the bubble burst when I came across this blog a few little years back. Well the situation was that my Peevesie going through some songs which Atul had posted back then, and I fumbled on the tune even if the title of the song seemed familiar. Much like what happened a while back when Sudhir ji posted a song from the film ‘Wahaan Ke Log’ from 1967. The lead line in the song is “Hum Tujhse Mohabbat Kar Ke Sanam“. And I promptly said “Rote Bhi Rahe Haste Bhi Rahe” as the cross line. Only to discover a different and a (relatively) new song. (It is a different matter that my devar feels that I know all the bollywood songs recorded ever. HAHA!!)

Yesterday I visited the page again on the song ‘Tum Apna Ranj o Gham, Apni Pareshaani Mujhe De Do‘. I know the words are ‘badi shai hai agar‘, on which there is the long thread of comments. ‘Shai’, in common urdu is a thing or an object. ‘badi shai hai ‘ literally means , its a big thing or a big deal. As it is said in English that ‘its a big deal for me’ or means a lot to me.

Does the name Sunil Sikanderlal Kapoor ring a bell in our minds? No? But if I say “Nandu, sabka Bandhu”, will that help us to identify the person I am talking of? I think the answer will be yes, by some of the regulars in the blog. Now one more famous line from this actor—“main crime master GO-GO, ankhen nikal ke goti kheloonga”. I can quote so many of his dialogues that I will stop here or the readers will say –“Samajhta nahin hai yaar” (she is boring us). Now I am sure that all of you would have come pretty close to identifying the actor who celebrated his 58th birthday yesterday (3rd September).

A look at her face (in the photos online), and it is difficult to believe that she is a grandmother of four years now. Her daughter, Riddhima, gave birth to a girl child in 2011. Rewinding further back, her wedding in 1980 to her frequent co-star Rishi Kapoor, seems like a news one read in the paper just a few weeks ago. At 57 today, her smile and the bright countenance belies her age.
Wishing a very happy birthday to Neetu Singh today (8th July).
