The decade of the seventies brought in some significant changes in the landscape of Hindi film song. For one, it was the spectacular rise of Kishore Kumar as a playback singer.“Mere Sapnon Ki Raani” happened in 1969, and after that we see a meteoric rise in Kishore Da’s playback singing performances. The second significant aspect is the accompanying rise of the new age music spearheaded by music directors like RD Burman and Bappi Lahiri. The generations were changing, and the new generations lapped on the new age music coming from this new crop of composers. Sadly, however, the demise of melody was also acknowledged to have occurred in this decade.

In most cases the one sided fire is extinguished in a very painful way, like what P L Santoshi faced with actress Rehana or the slap Sanjiv Kumar got from actress Nutan.
