Hullo Atuldom
21st January – the 57th remembrance day of the lively, lovely Geeta Bali – of the mischievous eyes and smile.
She was born Harkirtan Kaur in Amritsar and began her career at the age of 12. Her first adult role or heroine role came in 1946 i.e. at the age of 16. The film was ‘Badnaami’. Her popularity came with ‘Baawre Nain’ in 1950. She was seen in about 80+ films in her short career which ended with her untimely death in 1965.

‘PANCHAM-RAFI’ Jodi’s Variety Songs – 7

When I started as a ‘new contributor’ to this blog I had shared a Kishore Kumar song from the movie ‘Paanch Dushman-1973’ to Atul ji.
I was in fact not aware of this song before that, and it was my boss then, who, noticing my interest in music, had asked me about the link of the song.
He in turn was asked by one of his friends who was looking for this song. Both were aware of few lines of this song and about the singer only, and nothing more – like about the movie’s name etc. I was successful in locating this song. Later I also shared it to the blog. This song was posted on the blog on October 03, 2012.

The film was made under the banner of Noshirwan Movietone, Bombay, – possibly owned by the director of this film – Noshir Engineer. He was also its Producer. He was a specialist director of action/stunt/costume films. He directed 7 films, starting with the film Inteqam-1947. The came Shamsheerbaz-53,Carnival Queen-55, Diler Daku-57, Circus Queen-59, Chini Jadugar-59 and lastly it was Noor Mahal-1965, In 5 of these films the MD was Shafi M Nagari.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 9

Today (18 January 2022) is a foggy wintery shivery morning in North India. To add to this woe, the nation is also into the grips of the third wave of Covid-19 virus.
This day ten years ago, viz 18 january 2012 was almost world apart. Those days I was in a stage of transition, viz I had been transferred to Bilaspur, but my attachmnent from Nagpur was still there, where I still had my accomodation. Since I had not got my accomodation at Bilaspur where I had been transferred, I would go back to Nagpur during weekends and holidays at the first available opportunity.
Even without any proper accomodation, I had settled down well into my blogging, even if the rate of daily posts had gone down a bit.
It is clear that 18 January 2012 was no where near as difficult a day as 18 january 2022. Unlike today, when I woke up late and that too reluctantly, I has woken up early ten years ago as was my wont. Six songs were covered on that day. All these songs got covered before noon.

96th birth anniversary of O. P. Nayyar
Today, finally we arrive at a Rafi-Asha duet on the occasion of 96th birth anniversary of legendary composer of beautiful songs, OP Nayyar. I am sure, I have long back looked at this duet and saved the link multiple times in different laptops/folders.
I, for one, am most happy that this was somehow missed by all regular contributors to the blog, and not yet posted. So that I am having a quintessential Rafi-Asha duet by OPN, which is written by Qamar Jalaalabadi.

Today 16th January’2022 is the ninetysixth birth anniversary (16.01.1926 – 28.01.2007) of Omkar Prasad Nayyar whom we know by the name of O.P. Nayyar.
His name and music need no introduction. He was the ‘legend’ and has given us many songs to listen and cherish forever. He crafted a special place for his music in the annals of HFM and his music will be loved till it lives on this planet.
