I happened to listen to this short song for the first time in today’s program on Radio Ceylon and instantly fell in love with it. It is from the film ‘Dhuaan’ (1953) under the music direction of Dhaniram. The first step in sending the post was obviously to check if it has been already posted. For this I usually open all the songs posted from the film and also read the comments herein.

In July 2014, when the Blog was celebrating a milestone of 10,000 songs, I had written an article on Mallika Pukhraj and discussed her iconic nazm  Abhi To Main Jawaan Hoon. At that time, I had heard almost all ghazals, nazms and thumris rendered by her and available on the websites. One of her ghazals which I liked for very unique style of rendition was “Dillagi Meri Koi Kya Jaane”. Surprisingly, a good quality video of her rendition of this ghazal was available on YT. I was under the impression that Mallika Pukhraj sang this ghazal in Wadia Movietone’s film ‘Kahaan Hai Manzil Teri’ (1939).  I liked her rendition so much that I decided that I would attempt an article on this ghazal for the blog some time later. However, after a couple of months or so, I found to my dismay that the said video of the ghazal was deleted from YT.

I was aware of ‘Raaz-1967’ starring Rajesh Khanna and I have watched it twice.

And then I came to know that there was a film with the same title in 2002 and thereafter its sequels came in 2009 (‘Raaz-The Mystery Continues) & 2012 (‘Raaz-3’)

But till today I was not aware that there were two more films with the title ‘Raaz’, that were released in 1949 and 1981.

In my pursuit of films with ‘similar titles’, I discovered a movie of 1949 called ‘Maaya Baazaar’. So far, as per information available online I could see that there are three films with the title ‘Maaya Baazaar’ and they were released in 1949, 1958 and 1971.

Genius of Jaidev – 37

After completing all the songs of 1969 film ‘Jiyo Aur Jeene Do’ with the help from my generous friend from the capital of India, I, now, come to 1969 film ‘Sapna’. 2011 was the year when Dharam Devdutt Pishorimal Anand bid Adieu to this world. God it is four years since then. Seems like yesterday when I saw the news in the early hours of that Saturday and I had passed on the news to my Daddy dearest. He was 88 when he passed away. And by then he had acted in over 110 films and produced approximately 30 films. That is such a large number.

SHANKAR-JAIKISHEN IN THE 50s….Song No 4
————————————————

After having lost the melody and sweetness in their music post Junglee and after an attempt to redeem their prestige with a few sporadic melodies, Shankar Jaikishan came closest to their earlier magic with Teesri Kasam-66. Mukesh was just superb. Except for their songs made for Shammi Kapoor films, rest of their songs failed miserably. There was a talk in the industry about their differences and decline. This of course did not bother them much.

Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 5
———————————————————

Continuing my search for some rare songs which are not available on YT, I came across mp3 clip of a song ‘bah dheere dheere naiyya’ from the film ‘Paraaye Bas Mein’ (1946) on Dr Surjit Singh’s Website. Pran and Asha Posley were in the lead roles in the film. The film had 7 songs written by two lyricists – Tufail Hoshiyarpuri and Aziz Kashmiri and were composed by two music directors – Niaz Hussain Shami and Vinod. It is said that originally, Pandit Amarnath was to compose the songs for the film. Due to deterioration of his health, Vinod and Niaz Hussain were entrusted with music direction.
