Wadia Brothers’s (JBH Wadia and Homi Wadia) last silent film was ‘Toofan Mail’ (1932) which was released after sound films came into being.  As far as I know, the first sound film with a prestigious train name was also ‘Toofan Mail’ (1934) produced under the banner of Ranjit Movietone. This was probably the first action-adventure-stunt film with a title of the film after a prestigious train which became a huge box office success.

Hullo atulites

As I said once before, November is the month of birthdays of some Miss Indias who went on to be actors in the Hindi film industry. We have had Juhi Chawla’s & Meenakshi Sheshadri’s birthdays already. The next to grow a year older is Zeenie baby as she used to be fondly addressed as for a short period of time.

Today(12 november 2016) is the 70th birthday of Gopal Bedi.

Gopal who, you say?

No surprise if the name doesn’t ring a bell. But if I say “Ranjeet”, it will have instant recall.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

What is special today (16 october 2016)? It is the birthday of Hema-Dream Girl- Malini. She is still a dream to look at.

I had been to this show last month here in Bangalore where she was in chat with Kabir Bedi. (I had mentioned this in the post on Dev Anand’s birth anniversary.) It made my hair stand on end (as they say in Hindi- rongte khade ho gaye!)to see my favourite, since I was a child, at such close proximity. I felt like a kid once again. They played a clip from “Seeta aur Geeta”, the one where Manorama goes to the police station with Satyen Kappu to coax a very naughty Geeta to go home with them. The scene with the dialogue-“neeche aa beti.” To which Geeta replies: “oopar aa moti”. My mother used to tell me that as a child I had caught this dialogue and kept repeating it from the time we stepped out of the theatre after seeing the movie.

A few days ago when it was Lata Mangeshkar’s birth anniversary on 28 september 2016, I posted a Lata writeup, where I mentioned that we have been discussing a Lata song almost on a daily basis right from the beginning of this blog 8 years ago. I knew that we had more than 3070 Lata songs in the blog. I became curious to find out the number of days for which this blog is active. At first I decided to do the calculation manually, but then decided that I should let technology do the hard work for me. So, after some trial and error, I got just the excel formula that I needed. It was then that I realised that the blog was 2994 days old at that time. I mentioned this fact in the blog. I also realised that we were very close to 3000 days mark. So I contacted a few regulars of the blog and requested them for their special writeups on the occasion.
